FLEET MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN FOR SAILING SCHOOL
Award-winning Modern Sailing School & Club is hiring a Fleet Maintenance Technician! Based in Sausalito and now Berkeley, we have been teaching ASA sailing courses and providing charter services since 1983. The San Francisco Bay is a world-renowned sailing venue and an ideal place to learn about all aspects of the marine industry.

We are seeking an energetic Fleet Maintenance Technician to join our team. This position is 32-40 hours per week including work on the weekends and has the potential to grow to full time.
Job Summary
Working in Sausalito, the Fleet Maintenance Technician will coordinate with all Fleet Team members to maintain a reliable, safe, and attractive fleet of sailboats. The Specialist will also help ensure our customers, boat owners, and instructors are satisfied with the level of care we take in our Fleet.
Sailing is a fun and active sport, and this individual should be someone who can be fun, professional, flexible and maintain positive team spirit. Our staff enjoy leisure sails together, employee parties, discounts on marine supplies and vendors, and sponsorship for additional training.
General Areas of Responsibility Include:
- Charter Readiness: Ensure boats are ready for customers to charter.
- Activity Readiness: Prepare boats for upcoming special activities (multi-day courses, races, offshore trips, etc.).
- Rapid Turnaround: Assess, clean, and prepare boats between charters.
- Customer Service: Assist customers when necessary. Troubleshoot issues, help locate charter items, secure replacement items for missing or broken items.
- General Services: Complete a weekly checklist for all boats in the fleet: refueling, filling freshwater tanks, holding tank pump-out, and interior and exterior cleaning of all boats.
- Sails and Rigging: Repairs and/or changes as needed.

The ideal candidate is someone who:
- Is self-motivated, has a great attitude and works efficiently,
- Has sailboat maintenance experience and enjoys working on boats,
- Is team-oriented and has good communication skills and drama free.
- Can adapt easily to changing conditions and focus on solutions.
- Has sailing experience and speaks “boat”.
- Is customer service oriented.
- Is punctual and has reliable transportation.
- Must be willing to work 1 weekend day.
Compensation will be based on skills and relevant experience ($24-$28/hour). After 3 months of employment, team members are eligible for complimentary sailing classes and other educational opportunities. Full or Part-Time. MSC team members receive PTO benefits and medical insurance.
Our day starts at 8 am sharp and ends at 5 pm. 1 hour lunch break. Occasional overtime may be required.
We are looking for a minimum 2 -year commitment.
