We are a small, local IT company providing tech service to the greater SF bay area. This is an entry level position similar to an apprentice in the trades. I started off over a decade ago in the IT industry as a basic service tech and worked my way up, volunteering for all the after hours projects, weekends, all the grunt work, to now owning my business. I'm looking for someone who is in the same frame of mind. You don't necessarily need to be an experienced tech, I will teach you if you have good work ethic, integrity, and are willing to put in the time to learn. The best techs I have ever worked with were people who had prior experience in the service industry like cooks, bartenders, plumbers, carpet layers, etc.
I believe in the age old saying of "Take care of your people and they will take care of you". I will do everything that I can to set you up for success, show you the ropes, and make the job as fun as possible. That being said, this isn't a 9 to 5, you don't just clock out when a customer's network is down or there are unanswered service tickets left in the queue. The expectation is for you to step up for the company and your teammates, especially when the chips are down and it's been a hard day.
This is a hybrid onsite/remote position. Some days you will be required to travel onsite to client sites or ride along with me or another senior tech. Other days you will work from home answering client service calls, troubleshooting issues, triaging service requests, etc. Hours of operation are 8am-5pm Monday through Friday. Occasional work on weekdays and weekends outside of these hours are required.
The ideal candidate will be proficient with and have the following skills:
-Local to Sonoma County
-Skilled with basic power tools (mounting network/server racks, access points, etc.)
-Skilled in cable management with neatness and attention to detail
-Ability to lift and carry up to 90lbs (APC battery backups are heavy)
-Reliable vehicle with clean driving record
-Provide your own smartphone to make/receive calls via company phone app
-Fast, reliable home internet with a quiet place to work
-Fluent in English/Spanish is a plus
-Excellent verbal and written communication
-Ability to work independently as well as in a close-knit team environment
-Grit, being able to remain calm under pressure and work through a problem under stress in austere environments
-Good critical thinking and troubleshooting skills, able to use process of elimination and work through problems step by step
Compensation (my goal is to add a retirement plan by the end of 2024):
$20 an hour with opportunity for overtime
