The Cornell Cooperative Extension Tompkins County (CCETC) Nutrition Director is responsible for leading projects focused on promoting nutrition including assessment, development, delivery and evaluation of programming. This position will also supervise team members working on nutrition-related projects. The Nutrition Director is expected to develop Association capacity around nutrition in accordance with the CCETC strategic plan. They will engage with, develop, and facilitate networks, partnerships, and collaborations. The Nutrition Director will also work with community groups and CCETC staff to develop engaging programs and deliver the resulting educational programs, including training, engaging and supervising staff, and directing volunteers and interns in program delivery. They will work with Extension program areas, staff, and other community stakeholders to develop and support innovative programming to address racial and other inequities. This person will also serve as a subject matter expert and carry out administrative tasks that support the educational program and fulfill funding requirements.This position will engage public and private organizations to address high priority issues and maximize effective use of community resources across the region. This includes development, delivery and evaluation of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) Policy, Systems and Environment (PSE) strategies that promote health and prevent and/or postpone the onset of diet-related chronic disease among the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) eligible population. The primary PSE strategy that this position is involved with builds collaborations, offers trainings, and provides technical assistance around nutrition education and obesity prevention to organizations in a 6-county region (Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, Tompkins, Tioga, and Yates).This position connects with other Associations, Cornell faculty, and regional teams to develop collaborative projects and to conduct research related to Extension mission, priority programs and community issues. This is a full-time, 40 hour per week, benefits eligible exempt position. Compensation $64,000 a year.Required Qualifications:

Master’s Degree.

2 years of work experience relevant to position.

Experience working independently and as a team member.

Ability and willingness to build relationships and work with diverse audiences, environments and settings while maintaining cultural competency.

Demonstrated experience and skills in verbal and written communication.

Ability to plan and organize personal work responsibilities according to priorities developed with immediate supervisor.

Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.

Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with educational programming about nutrition.

Experience establishing and working with an advisory committee.

Experience working with municipal and agency staff at local, regional and state levels.

NYS driver’s license.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:Program Responsibilities:Program Assessment - 15%

Apply subject matter knowledge to lead nutrition team and other stakeholders to identify gaps in knowledge and other barriers to increase food security and the adoption of healthy eating practices and other SNAP-Ed goals.

Scan the region for new trends, advancements and state policy developments in order to identify upcoming programming needs around nutrition.

Maintain knowledge about local county needs, as well as statewide and national initiatives related to nutrition to assess needs for comprehensive and relevant programs.

​Program Development - 25%

Using in-depth expertise in nutrition topics, create innovative programs to address barriers to food security and SNAP-ed goals including engaging diverse partners and collaborators.

Create or adapt materials to address program needs in alignment with the Association’s strategic plan.

Structure program to meet the needs of diverse program participants including those with a low-income, rural residents and those from traditionally marginalized communities.

Make changes to program content based on evaluation feedback.

Maintain working relationships with project partners, community members, the University, municipalities and other interested groups to collect and develop program materials.

Program Delivery - 20%

Apply subject matter expertise and information gained during program assessment and development to deliver the resulting program.

Use a variety of delivery methods including workshops, trainings, public events, private meetings, articles, web pages and social media to deliver programs.

Represent the team to the public and community leaders in a professional manner as part of program delivery.

Adapt existing materials to create lesson plans that meet local community and individual needs, and consider diverse audiences.

Maintain linkages with Cornell and other SUNY institutions as part of program delivery.

Engage volunteers and interns in program delivery

Serve as subject matter expert and respond to questions in this area of expertise.

Program Evaluation - 10%

Interact with program participants to gather informal program evaluation information.

Interpret evaluation information and make recommendations for improvement.

Work with existing SNAP-Ed and other program evaluation frameworks implementing the evaluations, analyzing data, and communicating results to stakeholders.

Administrative Responsibilities:Program Direction - 10%

Assist supervisor to design a system of ongoing collaboration with external stakeholders who represent and communicate the demographics of the communities served.

Assist supervisor to plan for program expenses, communications and strategic marketing of programs.

Assist supervisor to plan effective strategic external and internal communication efforts.

Set priorities for the program

Management - 10%

Monitor and report on program expenses to ensure spending is within program budget constraints, including meeting match requirements.

Recruit, supervise and support staff and interns involved with program outreach and delivery including matching tasks to the individuals, providing informal feedback, problem-solving and regular communication.

May guide volunteers and interns in program delivery and involvement.

Provide performance feedback to regular staff, including performance evaluations, regular written and verbal communications, and disciplinary action if necessary.

Using set priorities, supervise the work of interns.

Coordination / Operation - 5%

Collect, compile and submit to supervisor the information needed for narrative and financial reports to meet funding agency requirements.

Create and coordinate staff and intern schedules as required.

Train support staff as needed.

Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.

Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.
