We provide Senior Living and Assisted Living apartment homes for adults 62 years of age and older (and people with qualifying mobility impairment disabilities). We are currently seeking a Full-Time Van Driver/Program Assistant to join our Life Enrichment team.

SUMMARY: To enrich the lives of the residents of Kavod Senior Life by providing access to community activities, shopping, concerts, dining and other various outings. To assist the Life Enrichment Director in enriching the lives of the residents of Kavod Senior Life through coordination and execution of various recreational, cultural, physical and educational offerings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

DRIVING & ESCORTING PARTICIPANTS

Van driver for Senior Living, Assisted Living and KOTR trips; Drives 27 passenger vans or 10 passenger van for regularly scheduled routes and planned outings, including trips to concerts, grocery stores, restaurants, museums, etc., and community events. Operates the wheelchair lift when necessary.

Maintain compliance of all vehicles in accordance with State, Federal, and local regulations, policies and procedures.

Perform pre- and post-trip inspections.

Provides good customer service to the residents and act as a representative of Kavod to the public.

Keeps all necessary items stocked in the van (i.e. First Aid box, tool kit, blankets, current resident contact info, etc.).

Assists residents with loading and unloading in the van, keeping resident safety the highest priority. Secures residents with seatbelts and wheelchair tie-downs; maintains Q’Straint certification.

Report all unsafe situations or service related issues to the Director of Life Enrichment. Reports extreme personality or health changes of the riders to the Director.

Notify Director of Life Enrichment of any incidents, accidents, injures, or property damage.

Transport residents to and from activities in a safe manner and ensuring safety during activities.

Provide assistance to the residents and non-residents with loading and unloading all groceries, walkers and wheelchairs.

Ensure all walkers and wheelchairs are safely secured and are strapped according to DOT regulations.

Maintain current American Red Cross First Aid certification.

Performs daily cleaning of the van upon trip completion to include trash removal, sweeping and seat belt check.

Job will consist of approximately 70% driving and 30% assisting with activities.

Regularly acts as escort during outings to assist with guidance to and from venues, bathrooms and back to vans as needed.

PROGRAMMING

Assists the Director of Life Enrichment to develop, promote and perform recreational programs, including, but not limited to, music, dance, arts and crafts, cultural presentations, games and social recreation for Assisted Living and Senior Living residents.

For Assisted Living outings, Assistant will promote trips by calling all residents to invite them on outings, compiles trip lists and emails to Director of Life Enrichment and Assisted Living staff.

On the day of Assisted Living outings, Assistant will gather residents by knocking on doors and escorting residents safely to the van as needed.

Assists the Director of Life Enrichment to develop, promote and perform recreational programs, including, but not limited to, music, dance, arts and crafts, cultural presentations, games and social recreation for Assisted Living and Senior Living residents.

Assembles all materials, decorations, and refreshments as needed at assigned programs and events.

Creates a welcome and inviting atmosphere for each activity by encouraging and inviting residents to become involved in activities by calling residents and knocking on their apartment doors to assist them in participation.

If requested set up and break down of needed materials before/after programs.

Attend Training seminars.

Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess a valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) CP1 or BP2 and maintain a safe driving record. Must pass background screening as required by DOT, including physical and drug/alcohol screening. An individual must have experience working with diverse groups; they must also possess computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word. Basic knowledge of Jewish customs and holidays is helpful; strong written and oral communication skills are imperative. Position requires a high level of creativity, solid organizational skills and demonstrated problem-solving ability. The individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 6 months experience in a driving position, preferably with older adults, the ability to navigate to and from destinations. Must possess a valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) CP1 or BP2, and safe driving record. Knowledge of Department of Transportation laws and regulations preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be able to read, write, and speak English. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret agency memorandums, policies and procedures, human service journals, financial reports, and related documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from residents, families, community agencies or staff.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts for budgets, program income and expenses.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit. The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
