Stillwater Sciences (www.stillwatersci.com), is seeking a Staff Accountant based in Berkeley or Davis, CA. This position is integral to Stillwater's business operations and financial sustainability. To succeed in this role, the Staff Accountant must be able to work independently and as part of a team, focus and remain calm under deadline pressure, and solve problems efficiently and effectively. The Staff Accountant must possess good communication skills for interacting with accounting and other administrative and operational personnel. This is a full-time 40 hours per week position.

The ideal candidate must possess:

-Analytical skills to resolve inquiries

-Confidence and initiative

-Effective communication skills (both verbal and written)

Duties include but are not limited to:

-In partnership with other accounting personnel, and using Deltek Vantagepoint software, assist with month end Balance -Sheet reconciliations and close procedures

-Prepaids

-Fixed Assets

-Various General Journal, Cash Disbursement, and other transaction and accrual entries

-Payroll entries and reconciliations

-Sales tax, business license, and other taxes and fees tracking and accounting

-Job Cost Variance

-Quality control/review AP vouchers and other entries

-Provide backup support for payroll processing

-Assist with process improvement initiatives, including implementation of automated workflows

-Ad hoc tasks as needed

Required qualifications include:

-3 years or more experience that includes preparing reconciliations, month end close, quality control reviews of transaction entries­, financial reporting, monthly accounting cycle calendaring, or equivalent experience.

-Strong understanding and knowledge of financial accounting fundamentals, including accrual basis, revenue recognition, cutoff periods, use of clearing accounts, and capitalization concepts.

-Ability to provide clear and complete supporting documentation and analysis in support of accounting transactions and reconciliations.

-Experience using ERP financial software system such as Deltek’s Vantagepoint (preferred), or other ERP software.

-Experience working in an architecture or engineering firm (preferred), or other industry that maintains job cost or product cost information.

-Proven organizational skills with the ability to effectively manage a variety of tasks.

-Strong attention to detail, follow-through, and problem-solving skills.

-Confidence to interact with all levels of staff, agency representatives, and clients in a professional and courteous manner.

-Intermediate Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat skills. Experience with Pivot Tables, SumIf and other functions, or a desire to learn.

-Versatility to work both independently and collaboratively.

-Personal integrity and sound judgment in working with confidential information.

Compensation and Application:

-Full-time position with benefit package including Paid Time Off, a 401(k) plan, ESOP, and full health and dental care.

-$70,000 - $89,000 annually; Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

-$2,000 signing bonus after successfully completing a 3-month introductory period.

-Hybrid schedule with minimum of 24 hours/3 days a week in the office.
