Position: Volunteer Coordinator and Community Engagement

Type: Part-time, non-exempt, hourly, hybrid

Starting Pay: $21.00 per hour

Office Location: Santa Barbara, CA

Under general supervision of the Executive Director, the Volunteer Coordinator and Adult Programs Administrative Assistant position will play a pivotal role in coordinating and managing volunteer activities and Adult Programs (cooking classes).

This is a hybrid role which requires on site work at the location in Santa Barbara, CA, as well as remote work. Time clock tracking is the responsibility of the employee. Hours may not exceed 8 in a day, or 25 hours in a week. California lunch break requirements apply, and are the responsibility of the employee.

The Volunteer Coordinator responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following:

Volunteer Coordinator – Remote and in-person: up to 15 hours per week

- Recruit volunteers through community events such as high schools, colleges, senior expos, local job fairs and farmer’s market.

- Coordinate monthly volunteer training: to be held the second Tuesday from 10:00am - 11:00am, or as deemed by the Management Team.

- Serve as the central point of contact for volunteer schedule change requests.

- Ensure that volunteer schedule changes are implemented efficiently.

- Maintain a roster of volunteers interested in events such as birthday parties, Farmer’s Market, table-setting, laundry organizing, etc.

- Conduct a quarterly volunteer re-engagement process. Call, text or email all current volunteers in Connecteam. Use Notes to collect status on each and proceed with releasing volunteers if no longer interested.

- Coordinate a quarterly staff and volunteer social engagement event (January, April, June & August). Suggested engagement activities: trivia night, bingo night, bowling, potluck, Crafter’s Library, escape room, cooking class. Budget for engagement events must be pre-approved by the Executive Director.

- Use Bloomerang to send informative email (ex. fun facts, who’s who, etc.) to volunteers pre-approved by the Executive Director.

Other assignments

- Other tasks and projects such as office organization and administrative support may be assigned by the Executive Director.

- Occasionally assist in cooking classes, to ensure complete knowledge of how the program works, and to make recommendations to improve volunteer experience.

Community Engagement – Remote and in-person: approximately 10 hours per week

- Collaborate with local schools, community groups, and partner organizations to establish partnerships and engagement opportunities.

- Book classes with community partners; provide data to Executive Director for grant requests.

- Facilitate networking opportunities for parents, educators, and stakeholders to share experiences and insights related to culinary education.

- Partner with key stakeholders to track and report on business KPIs for monthly and quarterly reporting with a focus on actionable insights.

- Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

Previous experience in administrative support, community outreach, preferably within a nonprofit or educational setting.

Passion for culinary arts, children’s education, and fostering healthy lifestyles.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with diverse audiences.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Enthusiasm for building relationships, networking, and forging partnerships.
