StadiumWorkdays & Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Subject to ChangeDESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe Epidemiologist Manager serves as the manager for a unit that investigates and prevents health-care associated infections (HAI), antibiotic resistance (AR), and antibiotic stewardship. This position and the unit it supports may respond to outbreaks and emerging conditions of public health importance and is available to support disease investigation and prevention as directed by the Bureau Chief in support of departmental goals. This position serves as the primary HAI/AR program manager and as the daily point of contact between the Bureau of Epidemiology and CDC for HAI/AR program activities.Responsibilities

Serves as the primary HAI/AR Program Manager .

Coordinates grant activities related to HAI/AR funding including the development and submission of applications as well as programmatic and fiscal reports and contracts with programmatic partners within HHD and COH guidelines .

Provides leadership for the development of surveillance and prevention activities for HAI/AR and AS activities .

Provides leadership in planning and implementation of epidemiological studies and related grant-funded projects .

Supports field investigations and surveillance of disease and bioterrorism related activities and is available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to respond to suspected outbreaks.

Designs, implements and manages complex epidemiological surveillance and research programs, including evaluation of program performance and quality assurance of databases.

Recruits, hires and evaluates the performance of subordinates. Provides training and professional development of staff subordinates

Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by the Bureau Chief or Assistant Director.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTSRequires a Master's degree in Epidemiology or Public Health with emphasis in Epidemiology or related biological, medical or public health fields.EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSSix years of professional experience in epidemiology or public health related fields, with four of the years in a supervisory role.Advanced degrees, such as PhD in Public Health with emphasis in Epidemiology or related fields, Dr.PH, DVM, MD Health with emphasis in Epidemiology or related fields, Dr. of P. H., DVM, MD or equivalent may be substituted for the two years of experience requirement.LICENSE REQUIREMENTSMust have a valid Driver's License and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving.PREFERENCESPreference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.GENERAL INFORMATIONSELECTION / SKILLS TESTS REQUIREDDepartment may administer skills assessment testSAFETY IMPACT POSITION YES SALARY INFORMATIONGRANT FUND POSITIONGrant and Special fund positions are dependent upon continued available funds.
