He or she will work within a dynamic team of data scientists, programmers, and researchers as part of PEDSnet (https://www.pedsnet.org) and the Research Institute's Applied Clinical Research Center to understand predictors of childhood diseases, improve the quality of children's healthcare, and rapidly advance knowledge through the creation and development of learning health systems. The Data Coordinating Center's (DCC) focus is on developing informatics methods to standardize health data from diverse sources and make intelligent use of the data to produce new and actionable knowledge about child health. All projects in the Center and PEDSnet are highly collaborative, typically with multiple individuals all contributing to the research and its output. Thus, the ability to work in dynamic, multi-functional teams is an important criterion for this position.The main activities of the role include, but are not limited to the following:Conduct data quality assessments on incoming data and identify potential areas where data extraction processes can be improvedDevelop reports summarizing the content and quality of data submissions and communicate with data partners about the use of their data.Collaborate with members of the PEDSnet DCC to develop tools for more efficient analyses that can be disseminated to researchers and other stakeholders who access the data.Participate in decisions regarding data modeling and design to optimize use of the network database.Work as part of a project team in a highly matrixed research environment, including direct interaction with clinicians and biomedical researchers.Make effective use of rich data from multiple sources for large-scale projects. This includes collaborating with researchers to write analytical plans, determine the capacity of data to meet their research needs, and perform feasibility assessments as needed.Provide researchers with analytic datasets and results that are crafted to address research needs and minimize privacy risk. Work with complex clinical data and extract information precisely targeted to researcher needs.Participate in creation of reusable code and standardized analytics and reporting. Assist in streamlining development and analytic work for reproducible research across multiple domains of study.Develop integrated biomedical data resources and associated applications that enable novel modes of data intensive clinical and translational research under direct supervision.

Analyze clinical, clinical research, and laboratory workflows in order to deliver custom data management, data integration, reporting, and analysis solutions that improve the quality, consistency, and utility of scientific d ta throughout its lifecycle.

Build consensus and buy-in to complex data integration projects by defining clear milestones and quickly delivering iterative data management, database and application products.

Apply best-practice methods for creation, optimization, and operation of high-value biomedical data resources, including data modeling, data provenance, data integration, quality control, and patient privacy protection.

Work as part of a project team in a highly matrixed research environment, including direct interaction with clinicians and biomedical researchers.What you will do

Collaborate with biomedical researchers to identify and analyze scientific problems that require integration of disparate, highly dimensional data types such as clinical and genomic data.

Quickly acquire biomedical domain knowledge in order to understand requirements for data integration, optimizing data resources and applications to meet scientific needs.

Create requirements for complex data integration and application development projects, and translate requirements into deliverables.

Develop and implement innovative data models that represent complex biomedical data types in usable and accessible schema.

Write extract, transform, and load (ETL) procedures that combine and recombine biomedical data into new, more useful formats.

Build and optimize scientific data management, data discovery, reporting, and analysis applications using a combination of off-the-shelf and custom tools.

Manage small projects and subprojects within larger initiatives, identifying, tracking, and reporting on tasks and deliverables against project timelines.Education Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree Required

Bachelor's Degree Computer Science, Information Science, Informatics, Biomedical Engineering, Biological Science or a related discipline PreferredExperience Qualifications

At least one (1) year of experience in database development, database administration, data management, or related discipline, preferably in a biomedical science or healthcare environment Preferred

Previous experience in source code management, continuous integration, containerization, and automated testing tools and processes is preferred Preferred

Project management experience preferred Preferred

Previous experience in data modeling, ETL, and applications of highly dimensional data types such as derived from genomics and observational clinical or human subjects research data preferred PreferredSkills and Abilities

Must exhibit excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills

Working knowledge of SQL

Working knowledge of relational database management systems such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle

Working knowledge of one or more of the following preferred: Python/Django, JavaScript/HTML (as used in Single Page Applications), Java, Scala
