Job DescriptionSenior Copy Editor Exciting Opportunity at MSK: We are seeking a Senior C opy E ditor to lead copy e diting of articles, news magazines, annual reports, newsletters, bios, digital content, executive presentations, strategy reports , and other communication across MSK . You will ensure best practices are followed – including proper layout, linking, and search engine optimization . In this role, you will be responsible for using and enhancing the MSK Style Guide to uphold standards for communicating across the institution about the ongoing work at MSK. Role Overview:
Copy edits to ensure proper clarity, grammar, and style for external c ommunication, as well as strategic internal messages such as institutional announcements . This content may appear in a variety of channels including MSK News, Annual Report, mskcc.org, and OneMSK .
Edits content with various audience segments in mind , as well as brand voice and institutional goals and strategy. Brings an understanding of the nuances and sensitivities for messaging to various groups including patients, caregivers, researchers, potential recruits, journalists, and donors .
Oversees copyediting for complex, multi-faceted projects that require extensive preparation and editorial scrutiny, such as the Annual Report and the MSK News magazine.
Possesses and continually develops digital technology skills related to editing, including the ability to stage stories for mskcc.org and manage workflow using content management systems.
Manages freelance copy editor workflow –- anticipating schedules and enforcing deadlines.
Creates and continuously updates the MSK Style Guide, used across the institution to adhere to communication best practices – from correct notation for degrees to describing clinical trials to proper terminology for messaging to various constituencies.
Stays up to date with digital and print content best practices, trends, and formats.
Edits and occasionally writes consumer and human-interest stories
Key Qualifications :
8-10 + years of digital editorial experience
Knows and consistently uses SEO best practices to optimize content during the ideation and creation process, including basic keyword research and trends.
Ability to edit content for clarity, coherence, and consistency.
Proficiency in managing multiple projects simultaneously, with the capability to effectively prioritize tasks amidst competing deadlines.
Proficiency using InDesign, Drupal, and Air Table
Core Skills :
Excellent communication skills: Ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels, both in writing and in person
Familiarity with medicine and the ability to present complex subject matter in clear, understandable terms.
Strong a ttention to detail
Ability to mentor others

Hybrid Schedule: Flexibility to be on-site three times a month.
