Hauppauge law firm is seeking a professional Legal Assistant/Secretary to join our team. Our firm handles various practice areas including federal and state criminal defense, personal injury and civil rights litigation.
Duties of the Legal Assistant/Secretary would include:
1. Assist attorneys in all phases of litigation, from case inception to trial preparation including, but not limited to, discovery demands/responses and motions
2. Maintain firm calendar
3. File review and document inventory
4. Discovery organization and review
5. Gather relevant information
6. Coordinate with clients, witnesses and opposing counsel
7. Review and proofread legal documents for accuracy and completeness
8. Maintain confidentiality of client information
9. Utilize document management systems to organize and store case files
10. E-filing
11. Assist with trial preparation
Requirements of Legal Assistant/Secretary candidate:
1. Five years experience preferred
2. Familiarity with criminal defense
3. Proficient in using document management systems and legal software with knowledge of all Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook)
4. Excellent proofreading and editing abilities
5. Familiarity with legal terminology and court procedures
6. Excellent typing skills with attention to detail
7. Friendly and outgoing
8. Excellent communication skills and a willingness to learn new tasks
