Position: Experienced Tree Climber
Status: Full-Time Seasonal (April–December)
Starting Pay: $43/hr+, DOE
Schedule: Mon–Fri, 7:00 am–3:30pm (overtime as needed)
Overview:
Climbers are a crucial part of our professional tree care team. Working closely with crew leaders and ground operators, climbers handle technical tree removals, pruning, and defensible space work while ensuring safety, efficiency, and high-quality results. This role requires advanced climbing and rigging skills as well as strong teamwork and leadership.
- Key Responsibilities -
Project Execution:
- Coordinate with crew leaders and ground staff to plan and execute projects
- Safely ascend trees using climbing ropes, harnesses, and specialized equipment
- Perform pruning, shaping, and removals according to ANSI A300 standards
- Use rigging systems to lower branches, tree sections, and equipment safely
- Assess tree health, structure, and hazards to inform technical decisions
Safety:
- Maintain and inspect climbing gear and ropes
- Implement emergency procedures, including aerial rescue and first aid
- Follow company and industry safety standards (ANSI Z133, PPE, job briefings)
Leadership:
- Mentor and support less experienced climbers and crew members
- Model professionalism, teamwork, and accountability on job sites
- Actively participate in safety meetings and training programs
General Operations:
- Operate and maintain chainsaws, pole saws, chippers, trucks, and trailers
- Support ground operations, including debris handling and site cleanup
- Ensure tools and equipment are properly stowed, serviced, and fueled
- Perform traffic/pedestrian control when required
- Qualifications -
Required:
- Minimum 2 years climbing experience (4+ preferred)
- Proficiency in spikeless pruning, SRT/MRS climbing, and rigging techniques
- Skilled in chainsaw operation and technical cutting/felling
- Ability to perform duties safely and efficiently in variable weather/terrain
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to lift 50+ lbs
- Growth mindset with commitment to training and safety
Desired:
- ISA Certified Arborist or Certified Tree Worker
- TCIA Certified Treecare Safety Professional
- CDL (A or B)
