This position works closely with local fire and life safety education specialists and persons involved in statewide safety and injury prevention associations to develop strategies to reduce the number of fires, fire deaths, and fire related injuries.Minimum Qualifications
Three (3) years of work experience as an instructor or teacher in a fire instruction/fire training/fire safety environment developing and delivering fire safety education programs and curricula, Work experience to include the following:
Developing lesson plans
Using computer and presentation software (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Evaluating program effectiveness through impact and outcome performance measures
A minimum of two years' experience as an instructor or teacher
Ability to communicate effectively with persons from various disciplines, experiences and education levels.
Ability to work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (or higher) in education, teaching and learning or similar field of study
Experience as firefighter, fire department training officer, or fire and life safety educator
Certification as a Fire Service Instructor or Fire & Life Safety Educator
Physical RequirementsThe employee must have the physical ability to:
Sit for several hours a day (at a desk and computer)
Drive for long distances (some job assignments require driving to various areas of the state)
Stand for several hours a day (when presenting or attending conferences)
Lift items up to 50 lbs. in weight (laptop computer, training materials, etc.) and carry them short distances.
