UMCI will bring U-M's focus on high-tech research, education, and innovation to downtown Detroit.You will lead the fiscal and administrative operations at the U-M Center for Innovation (UMCI) focusing on providing strategic insight to leadership and will report to the Director. Your role will encompass a broad range of responsibilities, from overseeing financial operations, including budget preparation, administration, and forecasting to establishing business and finance procedures that align with our goals. You'll be the go-to expert for managing our annual budget process, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations, and playing a key role in our HR operations. This includes resolving personnel issues, spearheading recruiting activities, and advising on HR policies, all while implementing best practices in human resources. ResponsibilitiesManage UMCI Financial Operations (85%)

Oversee our annual budget process and consult with other internal finance experts on purchasing, fund management, policies, regulations, taxes, reporting and internal controls.

Establish the foundational business, finance, and operating procedures for the new center consistent with broader U-M standard practice guides.

Develop academic program forecasts, business models, and other business and finance-related deliverables for academic program development in consultation with UMCI leadership, schools, colleges, and other campus partners.

Manage the annual internal controls process and ensure operational systems exist to support requirements.

Point person for oversight of the on-site parking facility including managing local and U-M-based service providers.

Manage UMCI HR Operations (15%)

Work with the Director to resolve personnel and salary issues.

Manage recruiting activities including assisting the Director in the definition and funding of new positions, preparing job descriptions, and managing the eRecruit process.

Provide salary modeling for budgeting and annual merit programs.

Advising supervisors and employees on University HR policies and procedures.

Provide information and consultation to employees regarding HR matters.

Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies.

in human resources, inclusive practices, and employment law; apply this knowledge to evolve practices and implement those changes.

Be a strategic advisor and functional expert to support all areas of the employee life cycle experience including organizational design, workplace culture, and professionaldevelopment programs.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or Nonprofit Management.

5+ years working in an administrative function including 3+ years in a strategic or leadership capacity advising leaders on resource management.

Demonstrated experience managing budgets of $2 million or more.

Demonstrated ability to work across the organization at all levels and interact with diverse populations.

Collaboratively work with staff at all organizational levels, while upholding a high level of confidentiality.

Comprehensive knowledge of finance and budget policies, practices, and systems; budgeting and reporting techniques; fund accounting; human resource planning; accounting and bookkeeping.
