Description The Payroll Specialist ensures timely and accurate end-to-end processing of employee payroll as assigned. The Payroll Specialist ensures adherence to all HR Payroll policies and procedures while complying with all legal requirements and federal/state regulations. The Payroll Specialist will collaborate with the Lead to support required administrative payroll duties and responsibilities.
Prepare and process regularly scheduled payrolls consisting of non-exempt/hourly paid employees, including the calculation of wages and tax assignments, verifying payment distributions, and ensuring the proper issuance of employee paychecks and statements of earnings and deductions.
Process special deductions related to wage garnishments and levies according to federal and state laws and communicate deduction changes with affected employees and associated agencies.
Time and Attendance System – Verify all paid and unpaid absences, special pay situations, time off accrual review, and supervisor support related to union contracts and Swisher policies.
Process weekly transfer of payroll data from time and attendance system to payroll system, complete analysis to confirm accuracy of download before importing data.
Responsible for updating non-exempt PTO programs including determination of benefits due, payment, and balancing. Complete quarterly fall-out report on time off system discrepancies.
Serve as back-up support to the Lead Payroll Specialist and be familiar with and trained on business-critical duties.
Other related duties as assigned in collaboration with various departments and the administration of the HRIS system.
Requirements
Requirements:
Associate’s degree in accounting, business or equivalent experience
3+ years of payroll experience which includes data entry, account reconciliation, and general office responsibilities
Demonstrated knowledge of payroll best practices and payroll tax laws and regulations
High degree of accuracy with data entry
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
Demonstrated ability to effectively and accurately communicate in writing and verbally.
Excellent organizational, planning, and prioritization skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Preferred Experience
Associate’s degree in accounting, business or related field
5 years of experience using UKG payroll and time management system
Demonstrated knowledge of interpreting a collective bargaining agreement and adhering to the negotiated remunerations
