Junior Naval Electrical EngineerJob Category: EngineeringTime Type: Full timeMinimum Clearance Required to Start: NoneEmployee Type: RegularPercentage of Travel Required: Up to 10%Type of Travel: Continental USThe Opportunity:You’ll get to work with a dynamic and growing team of Electrical/Marine/Mechanical/Structural Engineers and Naval Architects in our Washington, DC office. You’ll provide technical support on various engineering ship design projects as an individual contributor but also as part of an engineering team primarily in support of the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and the Military Sealift Command (MSC). You’ll provide engineering services support that may include electrical design, electrical power load analysis, fault current analyses, short circuit analyses, panel sizing, cable sizing, voltage drop calculations, electrical circuit drawings, work item development, selected record drawing (SRD) updates, cost estimates, ship checks and other new business technical work document preparation in accordance with drawing standards and good marine design practice.Responsibilities:
Perform engineering site visits and shipchecks at various Navy and Commercial Shipyards and conduct electrical analyses, generate 2D electrical design drawings to implement electrical power systems, electromechanical systems and control systems modifications which comply with commercial and naval engineering requirements/
Perform electrical feasibility and trade-off studies for selection generators, motors, variable frequency drives, transformers, Uninterruptable Power Systems (UPS), control panels, cables, timers, circuit breakers, power panels, batteries, relays, etc…
Perform preliminary level checks of electrical drawings and excel calculations and collaborate with other primary QA/review engineering mid-level, senior, and expert staff and generate final electrical technical products (e.g. 2D AutoCAD schematic drawings).
Perform contractual specification requirements and Review/Research Regulatory Rules and Commercial Regulations
Interpersonal skills required to work with others and communicate effectively

Entry level experience using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and or other similar CAD software
Qualifications:Required:
BS Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Engineering (BSE/BE), BS/AS in Electrical Engineering Technology (EET) or marine engineering; or similar background and/or specialized such as significant US Navy enlisted equivalency training with an Associate’s degree will be accepted in lieu of Bachelor’s degree
US Citizen with the ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance
Strong verbal and written communication skills with complex technical issues. The ability to create graphical representations and PowerPoints
Strong analytical skills
Willingness to travel 10% of the time
0 to 3 years of experience and capability to perform design ship checks onboard MSC and Navy ships
0 to 3 years of proficient experience in designing electrical rip-out and install drawings in AutoCAD software for basic electrical installations and modifications, including block wiring diagrams, elementary wiring schematics, and bills of materials.
Desired:
Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD, NAVISWORKS and SKM Power Tools
Advanced proficiency with MS Excel (macros, VBA, etc)
Familiar with Machinery Control Systems and PLC/HMI/Automation/Controls
Shipboard and/or shipyard experience
Other Professional Qualifications/Degrees
Participation in professional organizations (e.g., IEEE, SNAME) by authoring professional papers, holding elected office, or serving on a national or international board.
