GENERAL SUMMARY:
Privately owned San Mateo based commercial real estate investment and asset management company is hiring. The company currently owns and operates substantial multi-family and commercial office assets in San Francisco and San Mateo counties. We are seeking a candidate with technical accounting experience with real estate, the ability to accept multiple tasks, and who possesses the with utmost attention to detail.
The real estate accountant would be responsible for the accounting and administration duties related to the operations of a portfolio of real estate assets. The position will work closely with management and they will have the opportunity to learn and advance in the real estate investment management field. This is a full time, salaried position. Compensation DOE.
ACCOUNTING RESPONSIBILITIES:
Review monthly & annual property management reports for accuracy and completeness
Audit move-ins & move-outs from property management reports to ensure management has updated information in monthly financial statements
Verify and validate non-recurring and recurring invoices, check requests, and expense reports
Audit and review vendor statements and reconcile account discrepancies with vendor
Responsible for daily research and resolution of A/P issues relating to vendors
Monitors various A/R and A/P transactions throughout the month
Property level accounting: audit utility billing reports to ensure that third party servicers are correctly billing all tenants; audit laundry income and other ancillary invoices
Review property reports: rent rolls, delinquency reports, etc., to ensure reports are accurate
Enters adjustments, i.e. reclassifications, accruals, etc., recommended by asset management
Perform various reconciliations, including bank reconciliations
Review general ledger for accuracy and investigates discrepancies
Journalize any identified adjustments into general ledger, ensuring appropriate supporting documentation exists
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:
Input financial information into the real estate operating program
Work directly with vendors on billing
Prepare and organize invoices for approval and payment
Prepare weekly and daily check runs
Scan monthly bank and mortgage statements
Create, prepare, and update spreadsheets analyzing aspects of the real estate operations
Update business licenses annually
Prepare documents as required by the IRS and other taxing authorities
Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately
Potential payroll and benefit responsibilities
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or related field
Minimum of 4-7 years of previous real estate accounting experience required
Must possess knowledge of both cash and accrual accounting methods
Strong experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
Prefer working knowledge with Yardi, Breeze or Voyager, computerized property management accounting systems
Must be a team-oriented individual who also works well independently
Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
Individual must be self-motivated, highly detailed and organized
Effective communication skills, both written and oral including presentation
