About Mariposa Kids:

Mariposa Kids has been a cornerstone in the Mission District for over a decade, providing enriching programs centered around our core values of fun, community, belonging, well-being, and learning. Our organization thrives on creating dynamic and inclusive environments that nurture the social-emotional growth of every child through free play in our clubhouse on the James Rolph Jr. Park & Playground (with additional sites being evaluated for the future). We serve children in grades TK-5.

Position Overview: Director of Programs & Operations (DPO)

As the Director of Programs & Operations, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the operations and programs at all Mariposa Kids' sites (currently only our home location with our strategic plan envisioning additional sites opening in the near future). Reporting to the Executive Director, you'll collaborate with Site Supervisors to ensure the delivery of consistent, high-quality programs that align with our mission and values.

This role will begin no earlier than April 1, 2024.

Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum and Activity Development & Planning: Craft engaging, age-appropriate curricula for the After-School Program, Summer Camps, and Holiday Camps. Innovate and introduce new ideas to elevate Mariposa Kids programming to the region's top tier. Foster a creative, child-centered environment through thoughtful planning and activity execution.

Community Engagement: Field Trips, Guest Speakers & Events: Develop exciting, fun, and/or educational field trips and engaging community events. Collaborate with Site Supervisors to invite and oversee guest speakers, enhancing program experiences. Plan and organize regular community events for families, fostering a sense of belonging and connection.

Innovation: Strategize and conceptualize new programs and activities to keep Mariposa Kids offerings fresh and exciting for children and families. Support evaluation projects to improve innovation.

Staff and Volunteer Management: Lead a team of Site Supervisors, providing coaching and support for their development. Oversee volunteer and intern programs, ensuring a positive and engaging experience. Uphold compliance with safety and regulatory requirements for all team members.

Administration & Budgets: Implement proper protocols for children sign-in and sign-out, as well as safety record reviews. Collaborate with the Executive Director to create effective budgeting processes that align with our mission.

Ensure all programs operate within approved budgets.

Site Operations: Oversee site safety and cleanliness, maintaining proper child/adult ratios and child accountability.

Foster community relationships within a public park setting, enhancing Mariposa Kids' presence.

Communications: Provide timely updates to the Executive Director, Site Supervisors, and families regarding program developments. Document activities and programs through quality photos and stories for various communication channels.

Benefits:

Qualifications:

Working experience in education/non-profit program management, particularly programs serving children and youth.

One or more of the following qualifications:

Be a high school graduate or GED, plus have 12 semester units in child growth and development, or human growth and development; child, family, and community and program or curriculum development; and 3 units of administration or staff relations.

Four years of teaching experience in a licensed child care center or comparable group child care program.

A BA or AA in child development which includes 3 semester units of administration or staff relations and one-two years of teaching experience.

A child development site supervisor permit or program director permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Can substitute other course work in place of the child growth and development and child family and community that is equivalent or more pertinent to caring for elementary school-age children.

Other Qualifications:

Bilingual in English and Spanish (conversational and written)

Cross-Cultural Communication Skills: Possess effective communication skills that enable collaboration with individuals from diverse races and backgrounds.

Cultural Sensitivity: Show sensitivity to cultural nuances and differences, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for children, families, and employees.

Proficiency in the use of technology and computers for: G-Suite, word processing, photos, databases, spreadsheets, email and internet.

Knowledge of best practices for childcare settings.

Health, Safety & Legal Requirements:

Must have a current (negative) TB screening or be willing to obtain one.

Comply with being fingerprinted and have a background check in accordance with SF Fair Chance Ordinance obligations.

Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and the flu or qualify for exemptions.

Experience:

3 to 5 years experience in a related field: directing out-of-school time programming, developing educational programming/teaching in classrooms, researching/planning child development curriculum, and/or directing childcare settings with advancing and growing responsibilities over years in respective fields. Experience developing and evaluating programs for children in grades TK-5.

3 to 5 years leading a program and/or overseeing a team of employees.

Working Conditions:

The DPO typically works in a hybrid set-up of home (20%) and on-site (80%) among multiple sites and depending on programming needs. The DPO should expect to work on site during hours that children are present in programming. The mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces and have them working within the classroom spaces of sites or in parks/playgrounds.

The DPO works a standard workweek defined as Monday - Friday from 9:30am to 6pm but may be required to work some evenings and weekends. Summer schedules vary.

Ability to carry 40lbs and actively move with children. Purchasing supplies for programs may involve carrying supplies from stores to cars to buildings.
