Director of Programs

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for the coordination and development of Kimochi’s continuum of culturally sensitive services for seniors and families with a target of serving Japanese American elderly. The current continuum of care includes the following services and programs: Information, Referral, and Outreach Services; Adult Social Day Care; Nutrition; Senior Center Activities; Social Services; Club Nikkei; Transportation services.

CLASSIFICATION:

Exempt (salary)

Monday – Friday: 8 hours per day (40 hours per week)

Work Time: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

SUPERVISION GIVEN AND RECEIVED:

This position does provide direct supervision to staff and is supervised directly by the Executive Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Supervise program coordinators for each program area; assist in maintaining and developing procedures and policies to ensure quality services to target population; responsible for personnel management in all program components

Work with Controller to oversee contracts compliance for all grants; act as liaison to various governmental agencies.

Primary grant and proposal writer for all agency programs and services

Identify new grant opportunities to support and expand funding support for the agency

Represent Kimochi at various senior and human services consortia in SF/Bay Area

Maintain and develop policies and procedures for volunteers in all program areas; assist in implementation

Review and assess needs for program revision, additions, expansion to meet the needs of Kimochi’s target population

Oversee annual program evaluation, community needs assessments, and long-range program development plans for all program areas.

Work with Controller and Executive Director to identify long-term funding strategies for programs

Work with Board of Directors and its Program Committee to review program policy and direction; facilitate implementation and enforcement of policies.

MARGINAL / NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Public relations and fundraising duties as necessary.

Performs other duties as assigned and requested by the Executive Director.

Reading Comprehension: Reading and understanding written sentences and paragraphs related to work, safety rules, procedures, instructions for operating equipment.

Organization: Maintaining order by planning work activities in an organized manner. Strong in efficiency, planning, delegating and multi-tasking abilities.

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

MSW preferred. Bachelor’s degree in social work preferred or bachelor’s degree in social sciences with a minimum of three years verifiable work experience in a community-based organizational setting.

College education with major work in gerontology or related social sciences. Extensive qualifying experience may be substituted for college work.

Minimum of two years of administrative and supervisory experience in social services program, preferably including program, personnel and volunteer management responsibilities.

Knowledge and understanding of the needs and concerns of seniors and health/human service systems. Previous work with Japanese American community and bilingual skills in Japanese and English preferred

Good oral, written, and interpersonnel skills. Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with a wide variety of people.

Minimum of three years of program and administrative supervisory experience preferably including personnel and volunteer management experience.

Knowledge and understanding of the needs and concerns of seniors and health/human service systems. Previous work with Japanese-American community preferred.
