SIX MONTH RIVER DESIGN INTENSIVE (Feb-July, 2024)

During 2024 Riveropolis will redesign its flagship "Social Play & Science River" resulting in product(s) capable of being mass produced for institutional and consumer markets. To accomplish this we will hire two creative individuals who will gain experience with Riveropolis serving the community in the field while working in an industrial design capacity in the Oakland Riveropolis studio. After 6 months of this "Design Charrette" new and improved prototypes will be showcased in a special event in August 2024.

This is an in-person work opportunity with only minimal possibilities for remote participation.

PRIMARY WORKFOCUS

- Team members will gain Riveropolis product knowledge through process of maintaining, transporting and installing existing Riveropolis equipment.

– Team members will gain intensive field experience facilitating and maintaining Riveropolis equipment installed in the community to serve children, families and adults including at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park.

– A core task will be to access the knowledge of Riveropolis principle designer Gregory Gavin gained through 25 years of experience designing and facilitating indoor and outdoor waterplay environments. Once familiar with Riveropolis the team will tackle existing design flaws and potentially explore fresh concepts for improved water play equipment designs. The resulting intellectual property remains with Riveropolis.

OTHER POSSIBLE STUDIO ASSISTANT TASKS

Errands, procurement of materials, studio repairs, coordinating volunteers, working as an educator in summer camper documenting (photo/video) Riveropolis events

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills and experience in some of the following:

- Enjoy working with the public

- Deep experience with hardware/materials/construction/wood/metal/composites

- 3-D design modeling (both analog — cardboard, wood etc. and digital), industrial design and possibly engineering, sculpture, installation art, carpentry or plumbing experience

- Sound-of-body and skilled at lifting and carrying heavy and awkward items

- Ability to assess priorities and complete projects independently

- Background in education, community development and/or small business would be a plus

This is a limited time contract opportunity. Not an indefinate position in a company. Compensation does not include additional benefits.
