BASIC FUNCTION:

The Human Resources Manager will be responsible for administering and processing bi-weekly, multi-state payroll for 200+ employees, as well as overseeing a wide range of department-related tasks in support of the Human Resources Director.

The ideal candidate is an experienced professional in both HR and Payroll related tasks, with expertise in a wide range of payroll functions and multi-state wage and hour laws. We’re looking for an organized, detail-oriented self-starter who is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines and deliver a superior work product.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

Managing, implementing and developing all aspects of the company’s payroll functions while ensuring accurate and timely payments for all employees in compliance with federal and state regulations.

Staying abreast of changing regulations to ensure compliance with multi-state and federal wage and hour laws as they pertain to payroll, HR and the trucking industry. Provide applicable information to HR Director and the Executive Team.

Processing a large volume of Wage Garnishments and Medical Support Notices from various state agencies while maintaining compliance with state-specific laws.

Facilitating management and employee understanding of payroll procedures and providing ongoing training as necessary.

Staying current on payroll systems to achieve alignment with Human Resources department.

Offering suggestions/making improvements to payroll/HR department systems, processes and procedures to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.

Working in close conjunction with Human Resources Director to ensure department goals and objectives are being achieved.

Overseeing various daily aspects of the HR department including, but not limited to recruiting, onboarding and offboarding, compliance, benefits administration, monthly benefits bill reconciliation, employee relations, etc.

Assisting with end of year reporting (e.g. ACA, OSHA, EEO, etc.)

Performing other related duties as necessary or assigned

Required Skills & Abilities:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Self-starter, able to plan, organize, implement and follow through on projects

Able to multi-task and prioritize duties while meeting deadlines

Excellent interpersonal skills, being able to employ a high degree of tact, patience, and professionalism when interfacing with varying personalities

Proficient with the use of computers including Human Resource management software, spreadsheets, word processing, and payroll software

Maintain business confidentiality and professionalism

Willingness to learn

Education & Experience:

Degree or certificate in human resources or related field with appropriate coursework, OR equivalent education and experience that would prepare one for the responsibilities of the job required

3-5 years of HR experience, with strong expertise in multi-state payroll administration required

Expertise in multi-state wage and hour laws required

HR Certification (PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP) highly preferred

Previous experience in selecting and implementing payroll/HRIS technologies a plus

Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus

Related transportation and logistics experience helpful but not necessary

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing duties of this job, would occasionally be required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools, or controls.

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
