Kitchen Manager at organic food cafe

JOB TYPE: Part-Time (more hours possible)

COMPANY DESCRIPTION

Soft Medicine Sanctuary is an Ayurvedic-based whole foods cafe in Sebastopol. We serve the cleanest food in town with 100% organic farm-to-table ingredients. Our cafe is a bar service environment with a small prep kitchen.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a dedicated and creative kitchen manager to join our team to help improve and maintain our diverse menu offerings. You will be working with farmers, wholesale accounts, staff, and the public to maintain our inventory and check the ongoing quality of the food our prep chefs and staff are producing. We would like you to be available 4-5 days per week, approx. 30 hours, to come in person for quality control, checking inventory, and working with the staff to optimize the kitchen flow. The rest of your hours will be on your own schedule: ordering goods, improving sourcing, and refining our menu.

Responsibilities would include:

Inventory Management

Negotiate with vendors/suppliers

Maintain wholesale contracts and streamline sourcing

Track price fluctuations and profitability by dish

Manage delivery receipt/pickup of ingredients or prepared foods from suppliers

Monitor/organize stock and order new supplies and ingredients

Quality control

Staff Management

Ensure floor staff is trained on preparing food/drinks

Ensure proper handling, preparation, and storage of food/drink

Facility Management

Improve kitchen flow and cleanliness

Manage supplies stock

Qualifications:

Be able to taste existing recipes for accuracy, and create your own recipes for public food service

Work well with systems, record-keeping, and organization with spreadsheets

Enjoy working with other staff members to optimize performance in the kitchen

Have a flexible schedule to deal with changing demands in the kitchen

Love organic, local, vegetarian food, superfoods, and herbal elixirs

Love cooking and and making food as medicine

A strong work ethic, communication skills, proactive, and reliable

Restaurant, hospitality, or food service experience required

Food manager certification required (can acquire after hiring)

Basic knowledge of functional nutrition, ayurveda, and/or herbalism preferred

Bonus points if you are a pro dessert chef, raw food chef or have worked with gourmet sauce creation.

COMPENSATION
