About the Summer Camp
The Pathfinders Summer Camp hosts up to 15 children Monday through Friday from 9am-3pm. The program is held outdoors (rain or shine) and we travel by van from Rinconada Park in Palo Alto to local nature preserves. Frequent locations include Foothills Nature Preserve, Huddart Park, Thornewood Preserve, Castle Rock State Park, San Gregorio State Beach and Half Moon Bay State Beach. The Assistant Mentor is responsible for supporting the Lead Mentorand assisting the children throughout their adventures. This entails driving one of our minivans to our field locations, reading or sharing stories during circle time, participating in games and play, assisting children during snack and lunch, as well as a variety of other seasonal activities dependent on the day's location.
Requirements:
-Must be available to work Monday through Friday from 8:30am-3:30pm for the following weeks:
June 10-14, June 17-21, June 24-28, July 8-12 and July 15-19. There is no camp July 1-5. There is a one day staff training on June 4, 5 or 6.
-Previous Experienceworking with Children
-Understanding of child development, or willingness to get training
-A love of the outdoors, and knowledge of local ecology
-Current First Aid and CPR certified
-Clean driving record and comfortable driving up to 6 children in a minivan (this is a must)
-Positive Attitude
-Good communication skills
-Organized and reliable
-Comfortable working in challenging weather
Desired Skills:
-knowledge of ancestral skills like shelter making, basketry, tracking, bow drill fire making, rock paint, cordage making or other skills
-knowledge of local plant uses
-conflict resolution/peacemaking
