Hiring: Environmental Educator for ACE Summer Camp

Friends of Peralta Hacienda Historical Park is seeking an educator who is enthusiastic, creative, and well-organized to hold the position of Elderberry group leader (ages 11 to 14) for our ACE (Arts, Culture, Earth) summer camp this summer.

As group leader you will be responsible for:

- Leading a group of 15 youth participants

- Creating and facilitating art, culture, and environmental activities

- Gathering the needed materials for each activity

- Developing a daily flow for the group

- Communicating and collaborating with the Environmental Program Director to plan accordingly for the field trips, help develop a budget, and the group in general

- Lead the excursions and be actively involved in activities

- Take attendance and help implement feedback surveys

- Supervise supporting camp counselors

Qualities and qualifications of a good candidate for this position:

- CPR certified

- Preferred bilingual

- Experience working with BIPOC youth

- Be empathetic, caring, and patient

- Organized

- Have a passion for the liberation of the land and the people

Start date for this position is May 13th, 2024 and ends on August 2nd. Paid training will be provided in May, as well as a week of training the first week of June. The elderberry group leader works 35 hours a week, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am to 4 pm, with a 30-minute lunch. ACE Camp is five hours each day, from 9 am to 2 pm starting on June 3rd.

Peralta Hacienda is an award-winning historical, cultural, and community site and six acre open space park with the Peralta Creek running through it. It hosts a variety of environmental and historical programming for young people ages 5- 21 in which they garden, help restore the Peralta Creek, and engage in community discussions and events.
