Under the supervision of the Deputy Director of the San Mateo County Historical Association, the Folger Stable Program Leader gives 1-2 educational, hands-on programs per week for third and fourth grade students and their chaperones. In the fall, program shifts are Wednesdays from 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. In the spring, program shifts are Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. This position is on an as-needed basis.
Responsibilities
Set-up and present interactive program to school groups (third and fourth grade) at the Folger Stable located at Wunderlich Park in Woodside.
Use a variety of educational materials and equipment during programs.
Provide instruction and minor supervision of chaperones running hands-on activities during the tours and programs.
Clean up after programs.
Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma, some college, and two years working experience, preferably with children.
Public speaking, teaching or museum experience preferred.
General knowledge of and/or interest in history of California and San Mateo County.
Traits, Skills and Abilities:
Reliable and dependable.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work enthusiastically and effectively with visitors, staff, volunteers and program participants (including adults and children).
Ability to be flexible.
Ability to provide an atmosphere that reinforces a positive environment for students.
Fluency in Spanish is desirable, but not required.
Working Conditions
Requires a lot of time standing and walking and some bending.
Include moving light furniture and program props. Will require lifting objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
Status: Part-Time, As-Needed
Pay: $23 per hour
