Studio Maintenance at Ceramic Arts Studio

Initially we’re looking at part time (approx 20 hours/week) and expanding hours as the studio grows.

We are seeking a Pottery Studio Technician to join our team. As a Pottery Studio Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our pottery studio and supporting our community of artists and students. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting with studio maintenance, equipment operation, and providing support for our classes, workshops, and events.

Responsibilities:

1. Studio Maintenance:

- Maintain a clean and organized studio environment.

- Monitor inventory of pottery supplies and materials.

- Process and reclaim clay.

2. Studio Equipment:

- Maintain pottery wheels, kilns, and other studio equipment.

- Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform minor repairs if needed.

3. Technical Support:

- Loading and unloading kilns and establishing regular firing schedules.

- Make and maintain test tiles.

- Monitor, maintain, and mix glazes as necessary.

- Finishing work on student pieces. (We can train if the applicant has no pottery experience.)

4. Administrative Duties:

- Assist with studio events, class registration, scheduling, and studio bookings.

- Maintain records of studio usage, equipment maintenance, and inventory.

- Communicate effectively with staff, artists, and students to ensure a positive studio experience for all.

Requirements:

- Proficiency in pottery techniques such as wheel throwing, handbuilding, and glazing is a plus, but not required.

- Strong knowledge of pottery equipment operation and maintenance is a plus, but not required.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic studio environment.

- Comfortable with a level of ambiguity and fast-changing priorities.

- Must be able and comfortable with lifting 50lbs boxes, buckets, and bags.

- Attention to detail and a commitment to safety.

- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
