T is looking for a companion who is passionate about supporting someone with a disability and interested in overall health and wellness. has cerebral palsy and a seizure disorder and loves to swim. He is good-natured, athletic and loves adventures; with support, he rides horses and swims several times a week. He is looking to add to his team of swimmers and would love to have someone to coordinate.

About the Position

Swim with and support T while swimming

Support with horseback riding

Provide in-home personal care in Whitter before and after swimming

Drive own vehicle with T within Orange and Los Angeles Counties

Morning and evening shift available, $21/hour to start

Travel time included while driving T and mileage is reimbursed at $0.67

Shifts may vary Monday through Friday

Approximately 4-6 hours/day for 1-5 days/week, some flexibility may be considered

Coordinator Role: The job role has the opportunity for growth and can be expanded based on the needs of T and gained experience while on the job. Such additional duties include record keeping, coordinating appointments, staff management, scheduling staff, approving payroll, staff coverage, report writing, budget planning and tracking.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for T is a strong swimmer with upper body and overall physical strength capable of supporting an adult man weighing 110lbs, who may be unsteady on his feet, during swimming and other athletic activities, as well as while walking using a gait belt. Expert to moderate swimming experience is essential, while horseback riding experience is not required. They should also be open to new ideas, building relationships in the community, quick to grasp instructions, knowledgeable about special diets, providing total assistance with activities of daily living.

Qualifications/Skills

2 + years experience such as water polo, lifeguarding or open water swimming

Clear writing skills to maintain accurate, detailed narrative notes/documentation

Experience with personal care or BEMER preferred

Willingness to transport Talmadge in personal vehicle

Have an active Driver’s License, current insurance and a safe driving record

Vehicle in safe working condition

Clear background check with fingerprinting

CPR and first aid-certified/willing to attain

Must be 18 years old; Training will be provided
