Medical Transport Clinical Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Clinical Supervisor oversees patient care during transport, ensuring efficiency, safety, and compliance with protocols and regulations. They manage staff performance, participate in protocol development, and handle insurance pre-authorizations. The supervisor also maintains proficiency in reporting and dispatch systems, responds to critical incidents, and fosters positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will:

Oversee the coordination and scheduling of medical team assignments to ensure optimal coverage and efficient patient care delivery.

o Serve as backup medical personnel in the event of team member unavailability. All duties listed under the title of Medical Transport Nurse would be applicable.

Ensure all care aligns with medical protocols and physician directives.

Participate in case reviews and debriefings with physicians to enhance patient care and transport operations.

Monitor and evaluate patient care during transport, while ensuring that calls are executed efficiently and safely.

Ensure the timely completion of all required patient care billing documentation, facilitating compliance and optimizing reimbursement.

Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, contractual obligations, and established operational and safety protocols.

Ensure compliance with medical protocols, guidelines, and regulations.

Conduct case reviews and audits to maintain high clinical standards.

Manage and maintain records of all current certifications and licenses while overseeing ongoing training, skill assessments, and continuing education for medical staff to ensure compliance and professional development.

Ensure team members are certified and updated on the latest medical transport procedures.

Offer guidance, leadership, and strategic direction to crews, ensuring efficient operations and high-quality patient care.

Collaborate with dispatch, hospitals, and emergency services to optimize transport efficiency.

Cultivate and sustain positive relationships with internal and external customers, colleagues and members of the medical community.

Contribute to the development of protocols and updates to clinical policies.

Provide clinical guidance in response to critical incidents.

Oversee infection control procedures and safety protocols to ensure compliance.

Participate in risk management initiatives and incident investigations.

Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all medical reporting, flight tracking, and dispatching systems.

Maintain, clean, and restock emergency supplies and equipment.

Support recruitment, onboarding, and disciplinary processes as necessary.

Assess staff performance and deliver constructive feedback.

Ensures that accommodations are properly maintained, fully stocked, and operational, while also overseeing the cleanliness and readiness of buildings and grounds for subsequent use.

Complete daily and monthly reports as necessary.

Other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Provide outstanding customer service to external and internal customers.

Proficiency in computer systems, including dispatch software, Microsoft Office, and data entry.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving abilities.

Demonstrated ability to handle crisis situations and make sound judgments.

Ability to work independently in a positive and productive manner.

Maintain confidentiality and securing sensitive information.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associates Degree in Nursing with extensive experience may be considered.

Five (5) years of experience in critical care, emergency, or transport nursing. Prior experience in an intensive care unit (ICU), emergency department (ED), or flight/ground transport is highly desirable.

Preferred certifications: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), National Incident Management System (NIMS), Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN) or Certified Transport Registered Nurse (CTRN).

Previous leadership or supervisory experience in EMS, flight, or ground transport setting is highly desirable.

Experience in aeromedical or ground critical care transport preferred.

Valid state of Alaska driver’s license and be insurable under Benteh Medevac’s automotive insurance.

Clean state and federal background check.

SCHEDULE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. May involve on-call responsibilities.

Office-based role using computers, telecommunication systems, and real-time transport monitoring.

When necessary, the employee will work on an ambulance or ride in a small aircraft and provide patient care.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting for Extended Periods: Majority of the shift will be spent at a workstation using computers.

Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of a keyboard.

Stress Management: Working in a high-pressure environment with urgent and critical decision-making responsibilities.

Ability to repeatedly twist, squat, stoop, bend, grasp, use fine hand coordination, push and pull.

Ability to work in a confined and mobile environment.

Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds, independently and more with lift assistance. Maximum weight 350 pounds. Reasonable accommodations will be made related to this requirement, however, it is to be understood that weight is an important factor when dealing with small aircraft, if an employee cannot reach and hold this weight employee may be required to hold ground duty or be pulled from individual flights to accommodate maximum weights.

To ensure compliance with aircraft weight and balance limitations, as well as to uphold safety and operations efficiency, staff assigned to fixed-wing operations must not exceed a maximum weight of 225 pounds. This weight includes the individual’s body weight along with required uniforms and standard equipment.
