POSITION SUMMARY:
The Transport Paramedic is responsible for providing high-quality medical care and safe transport for critically ill or injured patients via ground ambulance or fixed-wing aircraft. Operating in a high-acuity environment, the Transport Paramedic collaborates with healthcare teams to assess, stabilize and manage patients during interfacility transfers. This role requires advanced clinical skills, sound judgement, and the ability to work in dynamic and challenging conditions, including confined spaces and varying weather conditions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform comprehensive patient assessments to determine medical needs during transport.
Provide advanced life support (ALS) and critical care interventions, including airway management, IV therapy, cardiac monitoring, and medication administration.
Continuously monitor and manage patient conditions during transport, making necessary interventions as per medical protocols.
Communicate effectively with medical control, receiving facilities, and healthcare teams to ensure continuity of care.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care, interventions, and transport details.
Ensure safe and efficient patient transport via ground ambulance and fixed-wing aircraft.
Assist in loading and unloading patients while ensuring proper securing of stretchers and medical equipment.
Operate within aviation and ground safety protocols, following crew resource management principles.
Perform pre-flight and pre-transport equipment checks to ensure all medical supplies and life support equipment are operational.
Work closely with flight crews, EMTs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide seamless patient care.
Communicate effectively with patients and their families to provide reassurance and information about the transport process.
Participate in debriefings and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and safety.
Adhere to local, state, and federal regulations regarding emergency medica services and air medical transport.
Follow infection control procedures and safety protocols to prevent contamination and ensure a safe working environment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Proficient in communicating with patients, families, medical staff, physicians, support agencies, vendors, onboard personnel, and clinics to ensure seamless coordination of care.
Maintains professionalism and composure in high-stress and emergency situations.
Respond promptly to phone calls and emails to facilitate efficient communication and decision-making.
Evaluate and interpret patient information to make informed clinical decisions in collaboration with a partner.
Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment when exposed to infectious agents, toxic chemicals, or hazardous environment.
Prepare and administer medications accurately, ensuring correct concentration and dosages.
Operate effectively in an aeromedical setting while utilizing required safety gear, including flight suits, hearing and eye protection, and gloves.
Possesses a strong understanding of ground transport operations to ensure safe and efficient patient transfers.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Certified Paramedic with a current license in Alaska.
Preferred certifications: Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Basic Life Support, Prehospital Trauma Life Support, Certified Flight Paramedic (FP-C).
o Certified Flight Paramedic, required within one (1) year of hire.
Minimum of three years (five years preferred) current Paramedic field experience in a busy 911/pre-hospital service.
Flight or transport experience preferred.
Valid driver's license and insurable under Knik Tribes automotive insurance, which requires drivers to be at least 21 years of age with a clean driving record.
Clean state and federal background check.
SCHEDULE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
14 days on and 14 days off – 24 hours a day operations requiring shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
o Employees are required to stay in crew provided accommodations.
o Accommodations will be provided at employer’s expense while on duty.
o Out-of-town accommodations will be made for employees when working or traveling away from headquarters when on company business. No guarantee is made that the accommodations will be private and not shared with another employee.
Stop Work Authority – Benteh Medevac has a firm stop work authority in place. It is the employees right and responsibility to exercise this program.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Stress Management: Working in a high-pressure environment with urgent and critical decision-making responsibilities.
Ability to repeatedly twist, squat, stoop, bend, grasp, use fine hand coordination, push and pull.
Ability to work in a confined and mobile environment.
Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds, independently and more with lift assistance. Maximum weight 350 pounds. Reasonable accommodations will be made related to this requirement, however, it is to be understood that weight is an important factor when dealing with small aircraft, if an employee cannot reach and hold this weight employee may be required to hold ground duty or be pulled from individual flights to accommodate maximum weights.
To ensure compliance with aircraft weight and balance limitations, as well as to uphold safety and operations efficiency, staff assigned to fixed-wing operations must not exceed a maximum weight of 225 pounds. This weight includes the individual’s body weight along with required uniforms and standard equipment.
