POSITION SUMMARY:

The Medical Transport Nurse provides high-quality, patient-centered care during emergency and non-emergency medical transport via ground ambulance or fixed-wing aircraft. This role involves rapid assessment, critical care interventions, and continuous monitoring while ensuring patient safety and comfort.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will:

Conduct thorough patient assessments to determine medical needs and implement appropriate interventions.

Provide advanced life support (ALS) and critical care, including airway management, IV therapy, cardiac monitoring, medication administration, and ventilator management.

Ensure stabilization and continuity of care during interfacility, scene, and long-distance transport.

Collaborate with paramedics, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), and other healthcare professionals to deliver optimal patient care.

Adhere to protocols and physician-directed medical guidelines while making real-time critical care decisions.

Perform advanced airway procedures, including intubation and cricothyroidotomy, when necessary.

Manage hemodynamic instability through fluid resuscitation, vasoactive infusions, and advanced monitoring techniques.

Provide comprehensive trauma care, including hemorrhage control and spinal immobilization.

Administer medications via multiple routes in accordance with regulatory guidelines.

Utilize advanced patient monitoring equipment such as cardiac monitoring, ventilators, and infusion pumps.

Maintain effective communication with dispatch, hospital teams, and receiving facilities to ensure seamless patient transfers.

Provide detailed patient reports to receiving healthcare providers, ensuring continuity of care.

Document all assessments, treatments, and patient responses accurately in accordance with legal and organizational requirements.

Ensure all transport equipment, supplies, and medications are stocked and functional before and after each mission.

Assist in maintaining and inspecting medical transport vehicles to ensure compliance with safety standards.

Adhere to state, federal, and organizational regulations regarding patient care, controlled substances, infection control, and transport safety.

Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Proficient in communicating with patients, families, medical staff, physicians, support agencies, vendors, onboard personnel, and clinics to ensure seamless coordination of care.

Maintain professionalism and composure in high-stress and emergency situations.

Respond promptly to phone calls and emails to facilitate efficient communication and decision-making.

Evaluate and interpret patient information to make informed clinical decisions in collaboration with a partner.

Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment when exposed to infectious agents, toxic chemicals, or hazardous environment.

Prepare and administer medications accurately, ensuring correct concentration and dosages.

Operate effectively in an aeromedical setting while utilizing required safety gear, including flight suits, hearing and eye protection, and gloves.

Possesses a strong understanding of ground transport operations to ensure safe and efficient patient transfers.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN preferred).

Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Alaska.

Preferred certifications: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), National Incident Management System (NIMS), Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN) or Certified Transport Registered Nurse (CTRN).

o Certified Flight Registered Nurse, required within one (1) year of hire.

2-3 years of experience in critical care, emergency, or transport nursing. Prior experience in an intensive care unit (ICU), emergency department (ED), or flight/ground transport is highly desirable.

Valid driver’s license and insurable under Knik Tribes automotive insurance, which requires drivers to be at least 21 years of age with a clean driving record.

Clean state and federal background check.

SCHEDULE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

14 days on and 14 days off – 24 hours a day operations requiring shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

o Employees are required to stay in crew provided accommodations.

o Accommodations will be provided at employer’s expense while on duty.

o Out-of-town accommodations will be made for employees when working or traveling away from headquarters when on company business. No guarantee is made that the accommodations will be private and not shared with another employee.

Stop Work Authority – Benteh Medevac has a firm stop work authority in place. It is the employees right and responsibility to exercise this program.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Stress Management: Working in a high-pressure environment with urgent and critical decision-making responsibilities.

Ability to repeatedly twist, squat, stoop, bend, grasp, use fine hand coordination, push and pull.

Ability to work in a confined and mobile environment.

Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds, independently and more with lift assistance. Maximum weight 350 pounds. Reasonable accommodations will be made related to this requirement, however, it is to be understood that weight is an important factor when dealing with small aircraft, if an employee cannot reach and hold this weight employee may be required to hold ground duty or be pulled from individual flights to accommodate maximum weights.

To ensure compliance with aircraft weight and balance limitations, as well as to uphold safety and operations efficiency, staff assigned to fixed-wing operations must not exceed a maximum weight of 225 pounds. This weight includes the individual’s body weight along with required uniforms and standard equipment.
