Northern Geotechnical Engineering, Inc. / Terra Firma Testing (NGE-TFT) is currently accepting applications for an entry-level, full-time position within its geotechnical engineering department. NGE-TFT is an Alaska-based, employee-owned business providing geotechnical engineering and construction materials engineering & testing (CoMET) services to residential, commercial, governmental, tribal, and resource development projects across Alaska. Job Description:

NGE-TFT is seeking dynamic and self-motivated individuals looking to pursue a professional career in geotechnical engineering. The position will consist of supporting the geotechnical engineering department in all stages of project execution; including but not limited to:

field work (site reconnaissance/characterization, subsurface exploration logging/sampling, groundwater

monitoring, construction inspection and quality control, etc.):

geotechnical laboratory testing;

field/lab data compilation/reduction;

computer drafting/modeling/analysis;

document research;

engineering calculations & design, and

reporting.

The position will periodically require deployment to remote/rural portions of Alaska for extended assignments and may require workdays/weeks in excess of 8 hr/day and/or 40 hr/wk. However, the majority of the successful candidate’s duties will be conducted out of our office headquarters located in Anchorage, Alaska following a standard 40-hr workweek (flexible work schedules are possible).

Experience & Qualifications:

All candidates for the position must have completed (at a minimum) a conventional, four-year college program and earned one of the following degrees:

Bachelor of Engineering - Geotechnical/Geological/Civil/Arctic Engineering, or

Bachelor of Science - Geology (any disciple), Geophysics or Geosciences

Although no formal work experience is required, any experience in a geotechnical/civil engineering and/or geological-related field is a plus. Relevant student internships and thesis-related experiences can qualify as relevant work experience. If candidates hold engineering degrees, then they should have taken and passed the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam and received their Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation and consider pursuing a professional engineering registration. Successful candidates must also have strong technical writing and intrapersonal skills as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Character, integrity and a positive attitude are prerequisite.

Compensation:

Compensation will be based on the candidate’s experience and will be adjusted periodically based on performance, tenure, and inflation. However, starting pay for this position will typically range between $33-$37/hr (DOE). Successful candidates will be subject to a probationary employment period, after which company-provided benefits (paid leave/medical/dental/401k/profit sharing/etc.) will apply.
