Job Title: Intake Coordinator / Peer Support Specialist

Location: Anchorage, Alaska

Clinic: Bethesda Treatment and Recovery Program

Employment Type: Full-Time (Early Morning Shifts, Have the rest of the day to yourself!)

Reports To: Clinic Manager / Program Director

Position Overview:

Bethesda is seeking a compassionate, organized, and dependable Intake Coordinator / Peer Support Specialist to serve as the first point of contact for our clients. This dual-role position is essential to welcoming new patients, supporting the intake process, managing front desk operations, and providing day-to-day support to individuals in recovery from opioid use disorder. The ideal candidate will bring empathy, professionalism, and a commitment to supporting recovery in a respectful, trauma-informed environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Front Desk & Intake Coordination:

Greet and assist clients, visitors, and staff in a friendly, respectful manner. Answer incoming calls, respond to messages, and manage front desk communications. Schedule and confirm appointments for new and returning patients.

Coordinate and complete new patient intake paperwork and onboarding procedures.

Collect, verify, and input patient data accurately into the electronic health record (EHR) system.

Verify insurance eligibility and collect required documentation for billing purposes.

Uphold strict patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 regulations.

Patient Support Duties:

Provide support to patients during their treatment journey, including answering questions and helping them navigate services.

Offer emotional support and assist with de-escalation when needed.

Help facilitate smooth patient flow during dosing and counseling hours.

Work closely with clinical staff to identify patient needs and support care coordination. Refer patients to case management, peer support, or additional resources as appropriate. Foster a safe, stigma-free environment that promotes healing and recovery.

Qualifications:

Be certified as a Peer Support Specialist (PSS) through the Alaska Commission for Behavioral Health Certification (ACBHC)

Prior experience in a healthcare, behavioral health, or substance use treatment setting is strongly preferred.

Knowledge of opioid treatment and recovery principles is a plus.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Comfortable working with diverse populations in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EHR software; experience with Methasoft, SMART, or similar systems is a bonus.

Ability to stay calm and professional in emotionally charged or crisis situations.

Must pass a background check and meet state and federal requirements for OTP staff.

Working Conditions:

This role involves both administrative tasks and frequent interaction with patients.

May require early morning shifts and Saturday coverage.

Occasional exposure to emotionally intense situations.
