Typical work assignments will include: Serves as a Litigation Support Specialist responsible for providing technical and analytical assistance to support the litigation needs of the United States Attorney's Office (USAO). Performs a variety of automated support necessary to prepare, organize, index, develop, and manage exhibits, evidence and data relevant to cases presented before a jury, grand jury or in other legal proceedings. Provides technical assistance to litigation teams on legal automation requirements and systems capabilities to facilitate investigatory or litigation decisions, trial preparation and trial presentation. Applies a basic knowledge of Federal Criminal procedures, court requirements, and district practices to implement applications needed for criminal cases and matters. Performs a wide range of information system analysis, development and coordination in support of litigation support activities for assigned cases. Works with Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs), investigators, federal agents and support staffs to recommend the most effective strategy to meet litigation needs. Develops alternative methods and encourages the use of automated support for trial preparation and presentation. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.RequirementsConditions of EmploymentQualificationsGS-09: To be eligible at the GS-09 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience. Specialized Experience: Specialized experience for this position is defined as 1 year of full-time experience at (or equivalent to) the GS-7 level in Federal service performing duties such as: assisting an attorney with trial preparation, including making recommendations on how to proceed with trial presentations; utilizing office automation tools in order to create physical and digital trial presentations; working with investigators, agents, and legal support staff; handling a wide variety of evidence and discovery; and providing technical assistance to litigation teams. Education: You may qualify based on education if you have a Master's or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or an LL.B. or J.D. Combining Education and Experience: A combination of specialized experience and graduate-level education which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate level education must be in excess of 2 full years. To calculate your percentage of graduate education, first determine the total number of graduate hours that exceed 36semester hours (or your school's definition of two years of graduate study), then divide the total number of your excess graduate semester hours by 18 (or your school's definition of one year of study). Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
