About Madison State Hospital : Madison State Hospital is located in a rural area overlooking the Ohio River and has served the citizens of Indiana for over a century, opening its door to patients in 1910. As part of the Indiana State Psychiatric Hospital Network, our staff offer comprehensive treatment programs utilizing a Trauma Informed Care approach. Patients admitted for treatment can participate in individual therapy, medication therapy, family therapy, psycho-educational groups, rehabilitation therapies, chaplain services, co-occurring programming, as well as employment opportunities. U nit-based programming is augmented with campus-wide specialty groups. MSH has been a state leader in evidenced-based medication prescribing to both reduce the risks associated with polypharmacy and optimize clinical outcomes. The hospital clinical and medical leadership collaborate with the unit treatment teams to provide the most contemporary and comprehensive care possible. Salary Statement: The salary for this position traditionally starts at $34,216.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience. A Day in the Life: The essential functions of this role are as follows:

Develop and implement procedures for the security of buildings and grounds to meet the needs of the State Operated Facility.

Give advice on the implementation of rules and regulations pertaining to parking and traffic, including markings and signage.

Develop short and long-range training programs for security staff.

Report status of security and safety to facility management.

Develop and continually reviews the standard operation of the security and safety program.

Develop professional standards for subordinate staff.

Review all policies and procedures and provides updates to those policies that specifically refer to safety and security.

Provide orientation to all new members of the security staff and assists in providing training for them in minor plumbing, electrical and other system repairs for temporary safety measures.

Provide continued education to the entire staff in regards to their role in the security and safety program.

Work with local, state, county, federal and other law enforcement personnel to assure a good working relationship between the State Operated Facilities and these organizations.

Work with other law enforcement agencies to recover runaway residents and to assure security of the grounds against vandalism and crime.

Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.

Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

What You'll Need for Success: You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

Have extensive knowledge of and ability to apply new developments in security and safety fields and ability to adapt work procedures accordingly.

Specialized knowledge of law enforcement and security principles that relate to the Homeland Security Law and all safety regulations including Infection Control, Accreditation agencies, OSHA, FEMA and any and all agencies of the state, federal and local agencies as pertains to Safety and Security of employees, patients and visitors on grounds.

Ability to develop effective working relationships with staff and other departments.

Be willing to travel with reasonable accommodation.

Ability to protect self, using physical skills of self-defense as taught by hospital personnel.

Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.

Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.
