The Commissioned School Security Officer (CSSO) ensures a safe, secure, and supportive learning environment. Working under the guidance of the school’s leadership and the Arkansas State Police (ASP), the CSSO is an armed and trained professional responsible for monitoring campus security, responding to incidents, and fostering a safety culture. This position is authorized under Act 393 of 2015 and follows Arkansas State Police (ASP) licensing standards for Commissioned School Security Officers. CSSOs complement school resource officers (SROs) where SROs may not be available full-time or district-wide.Key ResponsibilitiesCampus Safety and ResponseProvide a visible and proactive security presence throughout the school campus.Respond to incidents involving threats, unauthorized persons, disturbances, and other emergencies.Monitor building entrances, parking lots, and access points to prevent unauthorized entry.Conduct regular safety and security patrols of the campus interior and exterior.Implement and uphold all school safety procedures, including drills and emergency response protocols.Support school staff in de-escalating student behavioral situations with professionalism and care.Collaboration and PreventionPartner with school leadership, local law enforcement, and emergency services.Attend and participate in threat assessment and safety planning meetings.Serve as a safety awareness and prevention resource to school staff and students.Build a rapport with students and staff, contributing to a positive school climate.Reporting and DocumentationMaintain daily activity logs and incident reports as school and ASP policy requires.Assist with the investigation of security-related concerns and provide written documentation.Participate in post-incident debriefings and drill evaluations.Other Responsibilities (As Needed)
