Job Summary: Facilities and Maintenance Manager

The position entails working at Indralaya with a preference for living on-site year-round, with suitable accommodation provided; or living on Orcas Island. The Facilities and Maintenance Manager (FMM) is part of a management team that takes direction from and reports to the General Manager (GM). Indralaya is governed and guided by a seven-person Board of Directors that is very involved in both the management and operations of Indralaya, often choosing to volunteer in operational or supportive roles, concurrent with, but distinct from, their membership on the Board of Directors.

The FMM will be responsible for the following duties:

Construction and Maintenance Projects: Lead responsibility for construction and maintenance projects and outside contractors, except as determined by the Board or General Manager.

Volunteer Work Parties: Lead responsibility for work parties at scheduled times throughout the year to facilitate planned and break and fix maintenance and repair projects, planting and harvesting of fruit and vegetables (in coordination with the designated lead garden coordinator), trails maintenance, and firewood-cutting.

Physical Plant: Responsible for managing and overseeing the operations and maintenance of Indralaya’s buildings, facilities, and equipment.

Collaboration: The FMM is part of a collaborative management team, reporting to the General Manager and the Board.

Qualifications and skills

The ideal candidate for this position should have multiple years of maintenance and/or facilities management experience, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a demonstrated compatibility with the ethics and values of Indralaya, the Theosophical Society, and the Indralaya community. Specifically:

Previous maintenance, facilities, and/or management experience and demonstrated growth in responsibilities and leadership.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize.

Interpersonal skills and the ability to work with integrity, compassion, kindness, patience, and sensitivity in dealing with people of all backgrounds and abilities.

Versatility, flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to maintain positive and proactive communications with leaders, colleagues, volunteers, participants, and the Indralaya community
