Lead Gear Tech (Marine)

Western Towboat Co. is searching for a Lead Gear Tech to join our team working in our Ballard shipyard. If you are a versatile marine mechanic with experience working with z-drive tugs, then we want to hear from you! This position will work under the direction of the Port Engineer and assist in tasks related to the maintenance of our vessels. This is an opportunity to learn from and contribute to an industry leader that has been in the business for 75 years.

Pay: $45-$55 + OT depending on experience.

What we are looking for:

Strong work ethic, punctuality, & flexibility.

Proven ability to trouble shoot, diagnose, and repair drive units.

-Rolls-Royce (z-drive)

-Schottel (z-drive)

-Lufkin (conventional gearbox)

-Reintjes (conventional gearbox)

-Twin disc (conventional gearbox)

-Shaft (propeller & gearbox to engine alignment)

Perform and document routine maintenance.

Experience using vessel management software.

Mechanical aptitude.

Experience in and around a waterfront work setting.

Ability to lift 50lbs without assistance.

Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.

Experience working with marine fuel and lubricants, preferred.

Forklift experience, preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule:

Western Towboat normal working hours are 0600-1500 M-F

Special projects and deadlines may require weekend and late-night work.

Some travel to vessels and dry docks will be required.

Applicants must be able to work in person daily at our facility in Ballard, WA.
