Asphalt Paving Estimator Needed

The Paving Estimator is responsible for meeting with customers to prepare bid estimates. This position is the initial point of contact between the Company and customers. This is to be accomplished while practicing ethical business transactions and adhering to the corporate policies, values, and beliefs. The Paving Estimator will report directly to the owner.

Key Duties

Communicate in person, on the phone or via e-mail with customers in a courteous and professional manner.

Contact customers within 24 hours of first initial call to the office

Set appointments with customers to meet at job site

Listen to customer needs and educate them where necessary

Measure and note to prepare accurate bid

Take pictures and store for future file

Accurately estimate the cost of materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractors; ensuring all project scope is fully covered.

Take the ownership and lead in preparing a complete proposal with the ability to identify risks and opportunities, while maintaining a strategy of winning bids.

Bring high levels of initiative and creative thinking to identify potential alternate solutions or value engineering opportunities for our company and our customers.

Serve as a primary contact with customers through the bidding process and maintain an on-going dialogue to fully assess how we can best fulfill customer needs.

Qualification Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each key duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Communication. The Paving Estimator must have exceptional verbal and solid written communications skills. This position requires a person who is detail-oriented, has excellent people skills and strong customer relations. Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with customers, managers, and fellow employees

Education and Experience. This position is not an entry-level job, as it requires at least three years of work experience in the asphalt paving/maintenance estimating field, and/or experience with sales/estimating in a similar environment. A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. A proven sales record is desirable.

Computer and Technical Skills. Employee must have good computer skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office and QuickBooks. Excellent math computation skills required. Accuracy in Residential, Commercial and Municipal projects. Excellent time management and organization.

Cooperation. Be pleasant with others on the job and display a good-natured, cooperative attitude.

Dependability. Demonstrate reliability, responsibility, and dependability and fulfill obligations.

Attention to detail. Pay careful attention to detail and thoroughness in completing work tasks with the ability to multitask.

Work Environment

The Paving Estimator works in a variety of settings including residential and commercial job sites in all types of weather environments.

Office setting that requires sitting while using a computer. The office is adjacent to a shop that services heavy equipment.

o Noise and fumes are occasionally present.

This is a safety sensitive position.

Wages are $24.00 per hour DOE. We offer a medical, dental and vision plan with 50% of premiums paid by the company, paid sick leave and an IRA match for retirement contributions.
