Job Summary: Outreach LVT/ Experienced Assistant
Licensed Veterinary Technicians and Experienced Vet Assistants at Seattle Veterinary Outreach truly make a difference in the lives of countless pets and the people who love them by providing veterinary services for people living homeless or low income, who may otherwise not be able to access care for their pets. LVTs work closely with the management team to coordinate scheduling, set up, operation, and break down of mobile clinics, and maintain hospital units. LVTs should be able to communicate effectively with pet owners, veterinary staff members and management, as well as demonstrate exceptional organizational and customer service skills.
Part-time hourly non-exempt position
Schedule
9:00am – 5:00pm every Wednesday and Friday, (third day a week is flexible!) plus one Saturday per month with additional shift opportunities for admin tasks, staff meetings, and organizational tasks.
Due to the nature of our mobile clinic, LVTs must be able to access transportation to and from clinic locations across Seattle and surrounding areas (including but not limited to Monroe, Everett, Seattle, Woodinville, and Burien).
Specific Duties
Hospital Work collaboratively with the team to implement effective workplace procedures o Train and monitor veterinary staff and volunteers o Monitor the inventory for medications and medical equipment and organize for resupply o Interact with patients and address their complaints o Collaborate with Veterinarian(s) to oversee the delivery of quality patient services o Oversee staff to maintain cleanliness of public and employee areas of hospital trucks and stations during every clinic o Maintain organization of storage areas o Maintain an accurate drug log record according to FDA guidelines
Administrative o Facilitate lab testing and communication with clients o Work with the Operations manager to coordinate the maintenance of patient records, both physically and electronically o Order and facilitate organization of medical, drug, and office supplies o Prepare health, immunization, and euthanasia certificates/records
Assistance with Patients o Perform technical skills expected of a licensed technician, including but not limited to restraint, phlebotomy, surgical monitoring and assistance, technician exams and ability to communicate diagnosis and treatment recommended by the veterinarian(s) o Appropriately fill and label prescriptions as directed by veterinarian(s), and communicate to the client usages and side effects o Administer injections, fluids and miscellaneous patient care as directed by veterinarian(s)
o Appropriately handle and safely restrain fractious and fearful pets, as well as understand when to stop the line due to safety.
Supervision
LVTs and VA's work under the supervision of the Operations manager, however, they will also receive direction from veterinarian(s) and Executive Director.
Requirements
Will be required to stand for long periods, and perform moderately heavy physical labor
Must be able to safely and humanely handle and restrain (sometimes fractious and frightened) animals
Must be able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted
Must not have allergies to pets that will impact their ability to perform job duties
Must be willing to submit to a criminal background check
Must be comfortable working with our unhoused and low-income neighbors in and out of doors
Must be comfortable and have flexibility in a fast paced, triage-type environment with many moving “parts”
Desired Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years experience as LVT or similar position, including vet assistant
Bilingual (Spanish preferred)
Must have a proven track record of excellent customer service.
Must be technologically savvy - we use a web-based clinic management program, and you must be familiar with or able to become familiar with MS Office programs

Part time employees are available for health insurance and accumulate Vacation time based on the hours worked, as well as receiving pay for up to 9 holidays per year, if they fall on a day normally scheduled to work.
