SUMMARY
Sets up and operates numerically controlled machining operations such as turning, boring, facing, and threading parts such as castings, forgings, and bar stock.
Successful applicant must posses and bring their own tools.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs all tasks in a safe manner.
Reads process sheets, blueprints, and sketches of part to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications, set up, and operating requirements.
Selects and installs preset tooling in tool posts, turrets or indexing heads, and automatic tool change magazine, in sequence specified on process sheet.
Observes numerical displays on control panel and compares with data on process sheet to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates, and speeds of machining cuts.
Inspects first run piece and spot checks succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications using micrometers and precision dial gauges.
Reviews job packet and organizes materials for next run during automatic program-controlled cycles to shorten changeover time.
QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); plus, a minimum of three years experience or training in setup and operation; or, equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of basic arithmetic; ability to watch gauges, dials or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
Will be observant and able to view things at close range. Needs to be a problem solver, that is quick to action. Someone with the ability to understand and communicate information. Must be able to use a jib hoist or an overhead crane.
Employee must be able to work independently, and demonstrate an ability to problem solve/troubleshoot issues as they arise.
Remain calm while taking instructions in high pressure environments.
