Job Summary:
The Watering Technician role is a critical part of the team that provides high quality tree care services for our clients. This position performs skilled or technical types of work associated with landscape maintenance with an emphasis on vehicle operation, tree watering and maintenance. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the safe operation of a truck with up to 1,000 gallon tank, operation of pumps and fire hydrants, maintenance and care of trees. Best tree care management practices are required.
This temporary full-time position has the potential of moving into the production department as a permanent full-time position as Grounds Crew at the end of the season.
Primary Responsibilities:
Safely drive watering truck occasionally with trailers; perform daily safety inspections before and after driving / operating
Operate water pumping equipment and truck in a safe and prudent manner, at all times
Perform operations safely around pedestrians, often in high traffic areas, and present a courteous demeanor toward the public
Water and fertilize trees, shrubs, and foliage plants as soil moisture and weather patterns indicate, or as directed. Maintain shrubs, flower beds, and tree plantings while following designated water routes and watering procedures. Fill watering bags.
Assist with pruning, planting, mechanical weed control, and mulching for trees, shrubs and flower beds.
Properly plant, prune, weed, mulch, and perform general horticulture maintenance within parks and facilities' landscapes
Schedule water routes with regards to environmental conditions and adapt to changes in the current weather patterns and soil moisture levels
Track operations accurately and consistently throughout the day, providing activity logs to supervisor
Inspect equipment daily, and ensure proper care of assigned tools and equipment, perform maintenance on small equipment, and notify appropriate personnel of need for tool, equipment, or vehicle maintenance, service, or repair
Directs road and sidewalk traffic as needed to maintain a safe work environment
Follow STC, OSHA and ANSI safety standards, and wear necessary PPE
Report all equipment / truck / tool mishaps to management
Participates in weekly safety meetings
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
1-2 years of previous tree experience, preferred not required
High School Diploma
Requirements and Skills:
Valid WA Driver’s License
Ability to drive a manual transmission vehicle
Current CPR certification (or the ability to obtain within the first 3 months of hire)
Ability to pass background check
The ability to obtain TCIA Certified Tree Care Safety Professional® within 3 months of hire
The ability to obtain TCIA Certified Ground Operations® within 6 months of hire
The ability to lift, push, and pull 75+ pounds
The ability to respond quickly to sounds
The ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces
The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations
The ability to work in varying environmental conditions
The ability to wear personal protective gear correctly most of the day
The ability to reach overhead
The ability to grasp objects for prolonged periods of time
The ability to hear verbal commands
The ability to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and heavy machinery
The ability to stand for extended periods of time
