Location: NorKirk Area
Start Date: Mid October 2024
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 25 hours per week is preferred but the schedule is somewhat flexible. Sample week: Monday – Friday pick up from school (using family car) @ 330 til 8 (bedtime). Friday or Thursday could be a late night to 10:30 to get to 25 hours. Additional hours could be from working occasional weekend days EG: 1 – 2 Saturdays per month.
Child: 10 year old (almost 11) Autistic boy
Compensation: $45 - $55/hr depending on experience and qualifications, with guaranteed hours, paid time off, accrued paid sick time, paid federal holidays, and overtime pay for any hours over 40 worked in a week.
6 month minimum commitment required; longer term, multi-year relationship would be ideal!
The Family:
Family of three with no pets looking to partner with a nanny / manny / caregiver to help with pickup from school, post school activities and getting our lil guy ready for bed.
The Job Description:
The nanny will be responsible for ensuring a safe, nurturing and loving environment for their child. Job duties will include:
Pick up from school at 330
Driving to and supervising after school activities currently consisting of: occupational therapy, speech therapy and equine therapy
Additional after school activities such as: swimming, playgrounds (indoor and outdoor), dog parks, riding on line 2 (the local light rail), bouldering, hiking (our boy is active)
Behavior management (ideally using ABA principles) to address challenging behaviors
Provide caregiving and direct care supports focused on supporting the completion of basic daily living tasks EG:. personal hygiene, dressing, eating, toileting – facilitating total task completion when necessary / proving coaching, queuing, and prompting when appropriate
Proactively planning/offering age-appropriate developmental and sensory activities including developmental milestone support
Child- specific cleaning/tidying
Meal prep ensuring healthy diet (could include occasional meals from restaurants)
Tidying of spaces used throughout the day (dishes/dishwasher, playroom, family car, etc)
Getting ready for bed (shower and/or bath), brushing teeth and hair, and story time
Nanny / Manny / Caregiver Attributes/Qualifications/Requirements:
Ideal person has 2+ years of relevant care experience working with autistic children. The candidate should be energetic, athletic, warm, patient and have a good sense of humor. They should be genuinely interested in fostering a nurturing and positive environment, and helping to support the child in play, learning, and having fun! They should be unflappable and able to handle challenging and/or unusual situations. Our son likes to test boundaries and overreaction can reenforce bad behaviors.
Training and experience in early intensive behavioral intervention (ABA), behavior analysis, special education
A nursing, hospital, background would be great. Nursing or medical students are well suited and welcome.
Prior experience and an ability to provide care for special needs populations in comprehensive, creative and stimulating fashions.
Strong motivation to provide comprehensive and holistic service to individuals with developmental disabilities and/or special needs
Reliability is a must
The candidate should be up to date with all vaccinations including Covid + booster, and annual Influenza. They should have a valid Driver’s License, a clean driving record, and be current with their CPR/First Aid Certification (or be willing to update asap).
