Supervise total operation and maintenance of a major sports or recreational activity equipment room; responsible for fittings, adjusting, modification, maintenance, repair, laundering, requisitioning, receipt issuance, and accountability of athletic garments and equipment.Distinguishing Characteristics

Positions in this class are distinguished by total responsibility for acquisition, upkeep and maintenance of all athletic equipment within a large, centralized recreational facility, or for a major sports program such as football, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, tennis, golf, gymnastics, track, rowing, volleyball, , etc. Responsible for the skilled selection and fitting of athletic equipment for prevention of injury to the athlete. Supervise and participate in the requisition, receiving, storing, issuing, testing, fitting, maintenance, laundering, repair, and surveying of sports uniforms, equipment, and accessories.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct inventories, identify shortages and submit requisitions for new or replacement athletic equipment and protective garments. Maintain proper inventory records. 45% Determine annual athletic equipment needs; review requirements with directors/head coaches and assist in budget requests. 10% Supervise fittings and fit uniforms and protective equipment; fit shoes, making adjustments; custom fit and alter athletic equipment to individual body structure to aid the prevention of injury to athletes; modify equipment for previously injured athletes. 10% Assist coaches and recreation supervisors in establishing amounts, types, and quality of required athletic equipment for academic year; may travel with team and be present for home events (including weekends and evenings) to provide athletic equipment and services. 10% Provide support for athletics laundry operations. Operate commercial laundry equipment, applying proper treatments for stain removal and using proper washing and drying techniques. Transport laundry to and from various facilities. Prioritize tasks to ensure laundry is done correctly and in a timely manner to accommodate team practices, games, and other operations. Provide routine maintenance of equipment and maintain proper cleanliness and safety in laundry facilities. 10% Select, train, supervise, and schedule staff in total sports program; provide skilled instruction on use and application of various athletic equipment. 5% Make reports of inventory, staff activities, games operations, and recommended policy changes. 5% Maintain required health, safety and security practices in locker room and equipment room. 5%Perform related duties as required.

College Degree in physical education OR three years of full-time experience in athletic equipment room operations.Additional Requirements

Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint. Possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive golf carts, Gators, and similar vehicles. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and have ability to do unaided, repetitive heavy lifting, reaching, pushing and pulling of laundry, carts, and equipment. Must be available to work nights and weekends.Desired Qualifications

Current Athletic Equipment Manager Association certification or ability to become certified within 12 months.Application Process:
