College Intern – Human Resources Data Analytics

Some of what you'll be doing:This is a full-time summer internship opportunity. We are seeking a detail-oriented and tech-savvy HR Data Analyst Intern to support our Human Resources Data Analytics team in migrating existing InfoPath forms to Microsoft Forms or Microsoft Power Apps. This role will also involve developing dashboards to provide insightful HR analytics. The intern will gain hands-on experience with HR data management, business process automation, data governance, and data visualization while collaborating with HR professionals to enhance department efficiency.

InfoPath Migration Support: Assist in assessing existing InfoPath forms and help transition them to Microsoft Forms and Power Apps. Keep data quality principles on the forefront of the migrations to provide more high-quality data to HR after migration.

Dashboards and Infographics Development: Create and optimize interactive dashboards and static infographics using Tableau to support HR analytics and reporting needs.

Data Collection, Cleaning, and Analysis: Assist in the collection, structuring, and analysis of HR-related data to ensure accuracy and consistency in reporting. Use tools such as Microsoft Lists and Excel to accomplish tasks.

Data Governance, Documentation, and Administrative Tasks: Work closely with HR to understand data needs, document processes, and aid in creating a well-structure HR data governance strategy. Create documentation for all data processes, dashboards, and infographics for replication, tracking, and consistency.

Other duties: Other duties as assigned to help HR and the HR Data Team (same as the one on the bottom of most job descriptions where it says basically do anything else we need help with)

Who you are:

A student – You must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or a recent graduate (< 1 year ago) in a degree program such as Data Science, Data Analytics, Decision Science, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Statistics or Math, or some similar data-centered analytical major.

Experience – You have experience in data manipulation, knowledge of analytical methods and practices, and a good understanding of data visualization and information design concepts.

Passion for Data – You have a passion for data with skills in Excel and Microsoft Lists; knowledge of SQL or other analytics-related languages is a plus.

Communication – You have strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and can effectively communicate findings to stakeholders.

Proactive – You are a self-starter motivated to make meaningful contributions and can effectively work in a team environment.

Organized – You are able to work on assignments and manage time independently to complete tasks and also have strong organizational skills.

Technical Skills – You have familiarity with a Microsoft Power Platforms (e.g. Power Apps and Power Automate) and business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau).

What else you need to know:

Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.

Work Environment – This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management’s discretion.

Limited Duration – This is a limited duration position and is expected to last no longer than five months.

Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.

Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington State within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
