POSITION PURPOSE

The Assistant Director of the School of Social Work Masters in Social Work (MSW) program is responsible for the day-to-day management of the UW School of Social Work MSW program providing high-level administrative and strategic support to the faculty, staff, admissions office, and student support services that interact with the MSW program.POSITION COMPLEXITIES

They also provide advising to current and prospective MSW students, and professional communication with community stakeholders who are engaged with the MSW program. This position works with academic program directors and program staff to research and identify the operational needs of the MSW program; conduct curricular degree assessment and evaluation; maintain and identify gaps in policies and procedures; develop and implement new program initiatives; and actively engage in recruitment and retention efforts for MSW students of diverse backgrounds.POSITION DIMENSIONS AND IMPACT TO THE UNIVERSITY

The position is central to the integrity of the SSW MSW Program and, as such, is a key component of efforts to maintain and enhance the School’s national reputation. The position has a direct impact on over 500 graduate students, and is in regular contact with prospective students, along with faculty and staff within the University of Washington.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Program Direction

Work closely with MSW Program Director to identify emerging concerns and ensure that academic structures and policies are implemented in the MSW program.

Identify policies and procedures to assure implementation of various aspects of the degree program.

Coordinate and take lead for MSW program committee, including convening monthly committee meetings, assuring representation of required PC members, taking and disseminating notes from PC meetings, and other tasks as required.

Coordinate and convene quarterly meetings with MSW faculty and course leads to oversee curricula and address student learning needs.

Conduct and manage ad hoc evaluation of core and specialized curricula.

Provide monthly reconciliation of MSW Operations Budget, submit reports to Program Director, and coordinate budget reporting and planning with SSW financial staff assigned to the MSW program.

Supervise student employees to implement work determined in consultation with the Program Director.

Collate and develop action plans from information obtained from the MSW Program Director, MSW Program Committee meetings or special ad hoc working groups.

Shepherd curricular proposals through the approval process, including presenting to students, faculty, and submitting proposals for Graduate School review.

Monitor program compliance with CSWE’s Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards; serve as first point of contact for faculty and staff when conducting course competency assessment for MSW courses.

Develop and implement student-centered programming as needed, in partnership with other student support programs in the school.

Assist Admissions Director and faculty in efforts to recruit a diverse pool of applicants for the program.

Serve on ad hoc committees to improve MSW program design.

Represent Program at campus-wide meetings as assigned by Program Director.Program Implementation

Assist Program Director and ADAA in recruiting teaching talent for MSW course instruction.

Conduct annual MSW student poll to identify relevant elective courses.

Manage annual exit survey: coordinate students’ program assessment, summarize findings, and present data to MSW Program Director and Program Committee to inform programmatic and curricular improvements.

Develop and implement student-centered programming as needed and provide logistical and planning support for other MSW events, such as Orientation, Graduation, and Prospective Student Days.

Produce communications materials for MSW students and faculty on programmatic concerns and policies.

Coordinate with other SSW programs to maintain and update the MSW-related sections of the School's website.

Manage and complete all edits or updates for the MSW Program Manual.

Ensure with the MSW Program Director that the SSW website is updated and current with MSW program content, policies, procedures.

Serve on Admissions Committee to screen MSW applications; work with Director of Admissions, Program Director and Graduate School to update admissions policies.

Serve on Scholarship Committee in conjunction with Admissions; work to equitably distribute funds to students.Advise Students

Provide face-to-face, phone, and online advising to MSW students on academic, pre-professional and other issues related to academic and personal success in the program.

Work with MSW Program Director, Director of Student Services, and Assistant Dean of Field Education to monitor student progress through program.

Attend to issues of the social and emotional learning environment and identify potential strategies to improve interactions with MSW students.

Collaborate, organize, and facilitate with Specialization chairs the MSW degree Specialization information sessions and orientations.

Work with Specialization faculty chairs to host quarterly advising meetings for students.

Work with Student Services to create individualized programs of studies for MSW dual-degree students and transfer students.

Review and approve course waivers for MSW students seeking alternative coursework based on previous studies or special circumstances.

Review criminal background checks and work with accepted, incoming MSW students to resolve any concerns or questions about positive checks.

Manage MSW conference funding program: solicit, review, and approve student funding requests for conference attendance. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Master’s Degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Higher Education or Related field.

Three years of work experience in: project or program management, and/or event planning, higher education administration, advising or student support. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Exceptional administrative support skills (note taking, scheduling, planning, etc.) and administrative tool fluency (Outlook, Excel, Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.)

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with individuals at all organizational levels.

Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills for working with students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders and partners.

Demonstrated commitment to enacting the UW’s and School’s values and practices regarding diversity, equity and inclusion, and the MSW Program Statement of Purpose and Guiding Principles.

Proven ability to handle confidential information with an exceptionally high degree of discretion, professionalism, maturity, and tact.

Able to work proactively, both independently and as an effective member of a team.

Attentive to detail, but also able to relate details to larger MSW program and School activities and goals. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrated success in advising or supporting graduate students in their professional development.

Skills in Microsoft Excel, web-based content management systems, and other software programs that are used in the position.

Experience using Canvas or other learning management system programs, with a high aptitude for learning new programs and systems quickly.

Familiarity with holistic admissions processes.

Familiarity with UW graduate education systems, policies and processes.
