Your Role.

The Bear Creek School is currently seeking to add a member to our foreign language teaching team! Teachers are responsible for using a classical Christian education model to teach students, develop virtue, and help each student grow into the individual God intends. Lessons are carefully planned to inspire and motivate students and to support them in reaching the learning outcomes. A successful teacher creates a nurturing environment where all students feel known and valued.

In this particular role, the Spanish Teacher will teach 2nd year and 3rd year Spanish during a couple of classes a day.

We are seeking an individual who will:

Approach classroom instruction and student interactions from a Christian Worldview.

Collaborate with grade-level teams and department members to plan and implement the school’s liberal arts curriculum.

Create a predictable and supportive classroom environment.

Plan and develop engaging, age-appropriate course of study in the classroom, adhering to educational best practices, and prepare daily and weekly lesson plans to help students meet the learning goals.

Follow through on routine job responsibilities including grading, record keeping, attendance, and lesson planning.

Participate in collaborative evaluation processes with Division Head and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Attend weekly faculty meetings.

Be involved in at least one co- or extra-curricular responsibility.

Attend school events outside regular school hours including, but not limited to: parent/teacher conferences, curriculum night, arts performances, student socials, open houses, and professional development sessions.

Keep classroom neat and pleasant in appearance.

Monitor halls, study periods, and lunchrooms with other faculty and staff.

Enforce safety and security standards for students, staff, and visitors.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Teach using the target language, creating a full classroom immersion experience.

Teach by observing native expression and proceed by steps to comprehension.

Present vocabulary and new structures in authentic contexts.

Target listening comprehension, oral production, reading, and writing.

Provide opportunity to listen and comprehend native speakers.

Use different media to provide a variety of contacts with native culture.

Provide extensive reading practice with each new structure.

Develop natural language habits in Latin, French, and/or Spanish.

Provide a systematic comparison of Latin, French, and/or Spanish grammar and vocabulary with English.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Experience and Education:

Bachelor’s degree required.

Teaching experience preferred.

Familiarity or experience with the classical Christian education model preferred.

Currently holds CPR/AED/First Aid Certification (with Epinephrine Auto Injector supplement included) or arrangements made to obtain certification within 90 days of employment start date.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer. No sponsorship is available for this position.

Thorough understanding of pedagogy and the best practices of education.

Desire to teach upper school-aged children and ability to adapt to their developmental status.

Ability to design lessons that teach curriculum in an engaging manner, applying various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and individual or collaborative projects and research.

Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroom.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Creative analytical and problem-solving skills.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing to teach.

Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Must be able to traverse classroom and adjust one’s tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child.
