Purpose:
This position is responsible for accounting and financial reporting for First Church to assist the Director of Operations with fiduciary duties, as well as managing the front office to include communications, general office work, and supply level management. Weekly onsite hours are required.
Description of Bookkeeping Responsibilities:
● Current QuickBooks bookkeeping experience is REQUIRED (Preferably Desktop Pro Edition)
● Handle a majority of AP, AR, and payroll
● Reconcile and verify all company invoices and monthly statements
● Make and track appropriate sales and use tax payments on invoices as needed
● Enter annual budget into accounting system
● Prepare statements giving statements quarterly Stewardship Financial Support
● Assist in the use and management of records in Breeze
● Maintain listing of fixed assets and accumulated depreciation
● Create and record journal entries
● Post donations and contributions
● Prepare annual 1099s, B&O & use tax report
● Support annual internal procedural audit
● Sort, organize, and draft written fiscal policies
● Other bookkeeping related duties as assigned
Description of Office Management Responsibilities:
● Unless otherwise directed, be on-site two days per week for office coordination
● Check supply levels and order as needed or requested
● Track office purchases and be the primary recipient of items
● Receiving and forwarding communications via phone messages and emails
● Checking the offsite PO Box and sorting mail
● Be available to greet members and guests that need to drop off or pick up items
● Support Director of Communications with printing and mailing of communications
● Other office related duties as assigned
Meeting requirements
● Attend Weekly Staff Meetings
● Attend Weekly 1:1 meeting with supervisor (Director of Operations)
Qualifications:
● Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Accounting and at least two years of experience in a full charge bookkeeping role, or a minimum of six years of recent full charge accounting work
● Knowledge of GAAP
● Expert skills in QuickBooks Desktop Pro
● Advanced skills in Excel, word, and Gmail
● Proven ability to multitask, set priorities, and meet deadlines
● Strong communication, budget experience, and interpersonal skills
● Attention to detail, good organizational and planning skills
● Church or nonprofit experience a plus
● All candidates for the Bookkeeper position must pass a nationwide background check
Additional Information:
● Holiday time and sick time included
● This position is expected to work on-site regularly for office management duties and meetings and can complete some bookkeeping tasks remotely
