The WRPS mission is to safely store, retrieve, and treat 56 million gallons of legacy radioactive and hazardous waste. This complex mission spans all competencies of engineering/science accomplished through a highly integrated engineering organization. WRPS was identified as "One of America's Safest Companies" in 2020; and was the recipient of the 2021 "Employee of the Year" by the Association of Washington Businesses.The Waste Feed Delivery and Operations Planning group, as part of the Flowsheet Integration organization within Engineering, at the Hanford Site plays a crucial role in managing and optimizing the delivery of waste materials for treatment and final disposal. This team is responsible for developing, maintaining, and continuously improving programs that govern the planning and qualification of waste feed for processing across various mission areas. These include the treatment of 200W waste and the processing of low-activity and high-level waste feeds destined for the Waste Treatment Plant. The planning activities within this group utilize analytical calculations and modeling to inform operational strategies and infrastructure planning, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and operational efficiency.This position is for a senior-level engineer, various disciplines welcome, who will directly support management in the development, implementation, and enhancement of multiple waste feed qualification and campaign development programs.Job responsibilities/duties include:

Work as part of a dynamic team delivering the short- and long-term strategies for waste feed qualification and campaign planning

Advise and act as liaison for management to drive process and program improvement initiatives to enhance Waste Feed Delivery & Operations planning programs, as well as support to the broader Flowsheet Integration organization

Provide expert guidance on waste characterization, compatibility assessments, and waste acceptance criteria

Use process modeling software and Microsoft Excel to assist in evaluations and decision making

Prepare and review technical reports, evaluations, flowsheets, and spreadsheet calculations as needed

Verify and check reports and spreadsheets prepared by others.

Function as the lead specialist engineer for special assignments or on a task force.

Establish and maintain strong collaborative working relationships with engineering and external customers as needed.

Participate in the professional development of others, including mentoring of junior engineers and interns.

Plan and conduct work requiring judgement in the independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation or modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.

Act as a fully competent engineer in all conventional aspects of the subject matter or the functional area of assignments.
