The WRPS mission is to safely store, retrieve, and treat 56 million gallons of legacy radioactive and hazardous waste. This complex mission spans all competencies of engineering/science accomplished through a highly integrated organization engineering organization. Engineering at WRPS consists of process engineering, design engineering, nuclear safety, plant/system engineering, construction project engineering, procurement engineering, process and control system engineering, engineering standards/program implementation, and the Chief Technology Office. These areas support all areas of the tank farm mission including Retrievals, Production Operations, Field Projects, Waste Feed Delivery Projects, and long term innovations.The Nuclear Safety Engineer responsibilities are:Represent the Nuclear Safety department in control decision meetings. For engineered controls, determine if the control should be a design feature or Limiting Condition of Operation. For administrative controls, determine if the control should be a Specific Administrative Control or a Key Element of an Administrative Control.Participates in hazard analysis and control selection.Supports development of consequence analysis and frequency determination.Maintains qualification as a Nuclear Safety Engineer and USQ evaluator.Understands the Documented Safety Analysis (DSA) and Technical Safety Requirement (TSR) format and content requirements of 10 CFR 830, Subpart B, DOE-STD-3009, and DOE-STD-1186 and DOE-STD-1189.Understands how the hazard analysis is used in developing the DSA.Understand and apply the hierarchy of controls.Develop and maintain assigned procedures for process hazard analysis, DSA development and maintenance, and USQ process.Identify hazard analysis, DSA development and maintenance, and USQ process weaknesses and lead the development of program improvements.Participate as the Lead or Nuclear Safety representative on a PrHA team.Lead or participate as a team member on a DSA amendment development for major modifications and new facilities.Develop Chapters 2, 3, 4, and 5 of the DSA for proposed changes.Develop technical basis documents (hazardous event, consequence analysis)Perform hazard evaluation and DSA review in support of proposed changes and process negative USQ for proposed changes.Understand what proposed changes require USQ review.Understand the Potential Inadequacy in the Safety Analysis process requirements.Required QualificationsGrade 19:Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Engineering or related technical disciplineNine (9) years related experienceGrade 20:Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Engineering or related technical disciplineTen (10) years related experienceNote the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.Grade 21:Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Engineering or related technical disciplineTwelve (12) years related experienceNote the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is significantly larger, and the expected level of performance is greatly increased.Desired QualificationsKnowledge of the hazard analysis process, DSA and TSR development processes (DOE Std 3009, 1186,1189), and the USQ processTank Farm knowledge and experience.Qualification as a Nuclear Safety Engineer.Qualification as a USQ evaluatorDepending on the nature of your employment with WRPS, you can expect the following:A business casual dress work environment: jeans are permissible (restrictions may apply).Opportunity for work/life balance: a standard 4 x 10 work schedule, allowing more personal time to enjoy life outside of the office (other schedules and/or shift work may be required).Many positions (non-bargaining) allow for a hybrid work environment, a combination of in-office and telework (restrictions may apply).Compensation & BenefitsIn accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, WRPS takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market.
