GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Market Day Manager is a seasonal role, responsible for day-of management of the weekly (Saturday) farmers market in Lynden, WA as well as 3-5 hours per week of remote work managing market organization and communications.

The Manager reports to the Board President and is overseen by the Board of Directors.

This position is a unique job for an energized person! On market day, the Manager is the main point of contact for our vendors and customers, so they must have great communication skills. The Manager will often be the senior-most representative of the Lynden Farmers Market on-site, so they must be a natural problem solver, self-motivated, and highly reliable. Our market is an essential food-access point for our communities, so our Manager must be committed to the service of others. Our market is growing fast and there are many opportunities to take on various tasks that a Manager may want to gain experience in - social media marketing, grant writing, fundraising, graphic design, event planning, etc.

SCHEDULE & HOURS

The minimum schedule for this position is 7-8 hours on Saturdays, from about 7:30am - 3:00pm, plus the ability to work remotely an additional 3-5 hours managing vendor communications, scheduling, reporting, posting on social media, and updating the website and newsletter as needed. The season for this position is May 10th through October 15th, 2024.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Hourly, $20-23/hour DOE. This position will accrue WA standard paid sick leave at a rate of 1 hour per 40 hours worked. Wage increases will be considered on an annual basis for return employees.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

● Commitment to at least 14 of 18 Saturday shifts June 1st - September 28th is required

● Comfortable working with people of diverse economic, cultural, and social backgrounds

● Self-motivated individual, with demonstrated ability to take initiative at work

● Outstanding professional written & oral communication skills

● Prior leadership experience

● Demonstrated ability to communicate boundaries, give and receive constructive feedback

● Proficiency with online software such as Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Forms

● High school graduate required; higher education preferred

● Ability to lift 40 pounds

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

● Experience with social media marketing with Facebook & Instagram

● Experience with Squarespace website platform & Mailchimp

● Ability to speak some Spanish

● Farming, food access, or farmers market experience is a plus!

RESPONSIBILITIES

At a minimum, the position requires Market Day Management on Saturdays, including:

Directing market set-up:

Directing vendors to their booth locations, setting up the market-owned booth(s), facilitating musician set up, setting out signage

Attending to the Market Info Booth:

Processing SNAP payments and tracking SNAP Match distribution, answering customer questions, assisting vendors with day-of-market concerns, checking in with vendors

Overseeing market breakdown:

Collecting & tracking vendor dues, tracking food access currencies, packing up market booth(s) & signage, ensuring the market space is left tidy, locking up the storage shed.

Holding vendors accountable for adherence to market rules and regulations.

Tracking & recording sales categories from the Info Booth:

SNAP Tokens, Market Match, etc.

Submitting a brief daily market report to the Board of Directors

Supervising Market Assistant and any market day volunteers

Setting up and managing occasional youth and family programs and special events at the Market

Responsibilities during the week include:

Data entry into vendor sales tracking spreadsheet

Attending standard market-management trainings, such as EBT/SNAP, Market Match, or FMNP training

Managing vendor communications, on-boarding new vendors, & creating weekly market map and vendor roster
