GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Market Assistant is a seasonal role, responsible for day-of support of the weekly (Saturday) farmers market in Lynden, WA. The Market Assistant reports to the Market Manager and Board President and is also overseen by the Board of Directors. On market day, the Market Assistant will co-host the Market Info Booth, so they must have great communication skills. Our market is an essential food-access point for our communities, so our Market Assistant must be committed to the service of others.

SCHEDULE & HOURS

The schedule for this position is limited to 7-8 hours/week on Saturdays, roughly 8am - 3pm. The season for this position is June 1st - September 28th.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Hourly, $17-19/hour DOE. This position will accrue WA standard paid sick leave at a rate of 1 hour per 40 hours worked.

RESPONSIBILITIES

At a minimum, the position requires market staffing on Saturdays, including:

Assisting with market set-up:

Directing vendors to their booth locations, setting up the market-owned booths, facilitating musician set up, setting out signage. This involves heavy lifting up to 40lbs.

Attending to the Market Info Booth:

Processing SNAP payments and tracking SNAP Match distribution, answering customer questions, managing bread sales, and assisting vendors with day-of-market concerns.

Assisting with market breakdown:

Collecting & tracking vendor dues, tracking food access currencies, packing up market booth(s) & signage, ensuring the market space is left tidy, locking up the storage shed.

Setting up and managing occasional youth and family programs and special events at the Market

Other job requirements include:

Attending standard market-management trainings, such as EBT/SNAP, Market Match, or FMNP training

Assisting with social media advertising
